Unique Sikh Artwork Helps 'Burn Victims'
Canadian Artists, Ravi and Kirn Gill, are creating unique Sikh artwork for the modern home. They wanted to have positive and calm pieces around their home with Gurbani. However, they had a difficult time finding artwork that would work with their home decor. Ravi and Kirn realized that many of their family and friends did not have art/pictures representing Sikhism either. Therefore, the felt a need to create art pieces that would be both aesthetically pleasing and also remind them to remember Sikhism and its wonderful teachings.
Kirn is inspired by nature and finds herself painting landscapes in her paintings. She works primarily in acrylics but has started to explore oil paints. Kirn grew up in the Okanagan which is known for its orchards, valleys, and lakes. The childhood impressions of the rural landscape are evident in her work. She was also witness to her grandparents and parents listening to Gurbani as their daily practice and she too learned to read Gurbani. Therefore, adding the Shabad Waheguru and Satnam into her pieces was a natural step.
Ravi loves typography and design. He combined these two elements into the Waheguru prints he created. He is drawn to black, white, and straight lines, which you can see clearly in his work. Each Waheguru print is different in design but the central word is Waheguru
They have received amazing feedback from customers and and wanted to give back to those who are in need. They will be donating 10% percent of sales from all art pieces or prints that have Gurbani. The funds will be donated to Women for Women Organization.
Women for Women Organization provides surgeries for women with injuries. The injuries may be due to burn trauma whether it be accidental or assault. The surgery will allow the women to become productive members of society or at least be able to look after their basic needs. The organization travels to India and Bangladesh on these missions. The next mission is at the end of March and we want to help as many women as possible!
