Tegpreet Singh was 18 years old when he entered police academy with the intention to become the first observant Sikh officer in the state of Florida. At that time he sent a message to the now legendary Sandeep Dhaliwal and was greatly encouraged that he got a message back:

"Thank you Tegpreet, I am happy to hear that you are considering becoming a law enforcement officer. Always take pride in our identity. Look professional and let those heads turn." Tegpreet says, "I will never, ever delete this."

Tegpreet did go on to become the first observant Sikh in Florida's force. He went on to say that he sees his role as encouraging other Sikh youths to join the force. Now that Sebastian Police Department has honored with as the officer of the year it is clear that Tegpreet meant what he said.

Congratulations to Tegpreet, surely this country needs more of you!
