The Sikh community in collaboration with a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), Ramgharia Sabha Tanzania, has donated 100 mattresses worth 11m/- to Ilala municipality for use of patients' beds at Mnazi Mmoja Hospital.

The Sikh Temple Convener, Kulbir Gupta, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the community was inspired by the pro-active stance and political will of President John Magufuli to improve healthcare.

"The Sikh Community was inspired by his (Magufuli's) example and was trying to follow suit in a humble way," said Dr Gupta after handing over the mattresses to Ilala District Medical Officer (DMO) Victorina Ludovick.

He expressed gratitude to DMO and staff members of Mnazi mmoja Hospital for the cooperation accorded to the community and he assured that the Sikh community would endeavour to work hand in hand with the municipality to improve social services.

On her part, the Ilala DMO, Ms Ludovick, urged other community members to emulate the community, saying it was a commendable act.
