Southington,CT - Nov 20th, 2013: Thanksgiving was celebrated by Sikhs of Connecticut by implementing Guru Nanak dev ji fundamentals “share with needy”.

CT SIKH ASSOCIATION members decided to donate food to the local organization “Southington Bread for life”.

Bread For Life was opened on September 10, 1984. It initially operated three days a week at three different churches, serving sixteen people. By 1990, it expanded to a five-day-a-week program. That year it served 10,548 meals.

In 2008, BFL provided over 23,000 meals to our neighbors and friends in Southington who would otherwise go hungry. They provide hot meals to local seniors living in low-income housing. They not only provide a great meal, but also provide social interaction, which is so important to those living alone. They also share food with other agencies that no one will go hungry.

Members of CT Sikh Association delivered them more than 1000 cans of tin food with other items which can be used by them on daily bases to prepare food like ketchup, maize, sugar bags, flour etc.

Other members of community were also present like S. Gurvinder Singh Bharara, Komal Singh ji Head granthi Sikh Temple Southington etc.

Swaranjit Singh Khalsa also said “We should thank God every day for what we have instead of blaming him for what we don’t have,” and made the statement that Thanksgiving carries a universal message that resonates with people around the world.

“People in India even celebrate Thanksgiving”.

He also gave gurbani reference and made everyone aware of Kabir Sahib saying in which they ask question to earth,

”You have got mounatians, rivers, trees, animal etc, you have so many burdens on you. How you bear it?”
And earth replied,”that is no burden to me but when any man who is ungrateful walks on me,I cannot bear his burden”.

So we should always accept Guru’s Will and Thank him for all blessings we have.

Regards,
Swaranjit Singh Khalsa
