November 15, 2011 (ORANGE, CA) SikhLens is proud to announce the remarkable Focus on Youth segment of the 2011 Sikh Art & Film Festival being held from November 18 - 20, 2011, at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.

The Focus on Youth segment will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 10am to 12:30pm. The special segment will feature a live play, an on-stage sing-along, short films, book readings, and art, focused on inciting interest and inspiring the youth, while teaching about Sikh history and values.

Falcon (95K)Sikhlens is excited to introduce the world premier of The Royal Falcon Musical based on the highly acclaimed children’s book, The Royal Falcon by Jessi Kaur, a California based author. The Royal Falcon Musical is a heartwarming and powerful story with magical elements; it follows Guru Gobind Singh’s falcon as he takes an eight year old Sikh boy, Arjan, on a fantastical journey through time to teach him core Sikh values of compassion, empathy, forgiveness and sharing. The musical blends jazz, rock, and hip hop music, while still being based on the message of Gurbani. With its multicultural cast and creative concept, it is the first of its kind in the Sikh World, and is sure to touch the hearts of adults and children alike.

In addition to The Royal Falcon Musical, the Focus on Youth segment will also have a live sing-along performance based on the Sikh nursery rhymes book, Ek Chota Bacha, by Jagdeep Singh. Children and adults will be tempted and invited to sing along with the Kavitas (poems) with their repetitive and upbeat lyrics.

Among other things, there will also be a reading of excerpts from the books, My First Singh/Kaur Books and Big Farm, with their respective authors, as well as a screening of the highly anticipated film: ‘Expressions of a Sikh Youth: A Series of Shorts’.
