Jun 2, 2014 - JALANDHAR: Rights group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) has decided to submit a complaint before the UN high commissioner for human rights on the 30th anniversary of Operation Blue Star, that falls on June 6, seeking a probe into the army action on Darbar Sahib.
In its complaint, the New York-based group would cite "British involvement" and "press censorship" to prove its claim that there was an international angle to the incident and that the government suppressed the truth via media censorship.
The plaint will be submitted to UN assistant secretary general for human rights Ivan Šimonovic', pointing out gross human rights violations. A procession will also be taken out in New York on the occasion.
"Documents and evidence prove that Prime Minster Indira Gandhi had planned the invasion of Golden Temple long before the attack, which resulted in the killing of several thousand unarmed and innocent pilgrims, clearly violating the basic humanitarian law provisions for the protection of the civilian population and for the protection of cultural objects and places of worship," said SFJ legal advisor Gurpatwant Singh Pannun.
He argued that an international inquiry by the UN was required as declassification of secret British documents has recently revealed that help from the UK had been sought and the role of British government was yet to come out.
Sikh groups in the UK have also been demanding that all documents and facts related to British involvement in the army action be revealed. SFJ will also point out that days before the army action, the government imposed censorship on media to suppress the truth.
