More than 700 people flocked to the Milan Banqueting Hall, The Green, Southall, last Thursday evening as Southall Conservatives launched their team for next year’s Council elections. Chairman of Ealing Southall Conservatives, Cllr Manjit Singh, introduced the Conservative Parliamentary candidate, Cllr Gurcharan Singh, as well as Council candidates for Southall’s five wards.
The event was attended by Shadow Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, Shailesh Vara MP. Mr Ranbir Suri and Mr Rickie Sehgal - Chairman and General Secretary respectively of British Asian Conservative Link – were both there. Deputy Mayor of London, Richard Barnes, also came along to lend his support.
Leader of the Council, Cllr Jason Stacey said after the event:
“The level of support the Conservative Party is generating Southall is truly impressive. I can’t think of any other part of the Borough where a Conservative event like this would attract 700 people. Labour took the area for granted for so long that they let things decline, but now the Conservative Party has a vibrant Association in Southall with quality candidates. That gives Southall residents the chance to vote for something better. The days of Labour complacently expecting to win no matter how poor their performance are over.”
Richard Barnes, London Assembly Member for Ealing and Hillingdon said," I was delighted to attend the launch of the Conservative team for Southall, together with the PPC for Southall Cllr. Gurcharan Singh. This is a strong team of local people with a strong and long track record of working for the community Southall can be proud of its local representatives and I look forward to working closely with them over the coming months and after they are elected. Gurcharan will make a superb MP for Southall and I am sure that under his guidance Southall will change for the better, forever".
Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Ealing Southall, Cllr Gurcharan Singh said:
“We have worked hard to produce a good team in order to make a difference to Southall, so it is pleasing that we are seeing such enthusiastic support.
“In the last three years Jason Stacey has shown what benefits a ‘can-do’ Conservative administration can do for Southall people in terms of cleaner streets, safer communities and value for money. By working together to solve Southall’s problems we are offering residents a real choice at next year’s elections.”
