Saturday, May 14, 2011: The Sikh community took to two wheels to raise more than £4,000 for charity.

The annual bike ride set off from Sainsbury’s in High Road, Ilford, where more than 70 members of the community met to take part.

The ride is in its 12th year, and proved to be a hit with all ages as the youngest participant was seven.

Cyclists were able to breathe a sigh of relief when they passed the finish line in Newham.

Organiser Vinisha Kaur said: “So many charities benefited from this, help for heroes, dream factory, Alzheimer’s society, the Stroke association and Richard House Children’s Hospice.”

The first prize went to Lakshmi Rathore, of Ilford, who raised £600 through sponsorship.
