Khalsa Centre Mission, BC, Canada
Sidak is a distinctive leadership development program for young adults (17-40) seeking to increase their commitment towards the Sikh faith. A two-week intensive immersion in Sikh culture, language, values and community through understanding bani (scripture), tvarikh (history), and rahit (discipline).
In addition to the core tracks "Sikhi 101" and "Sikhi 201", this year we are excited to introduce a brand new track "Gurbani 101" - a survey course that familiarizes students with the structure, languages, themes, terms and principles of the Guru Granth Sahib. The course provides tools and exposure to nomenclature for developing an approach to understanding Guru Granth Sahib.
Besides the classroom experience, there are daily divans in the morning and evening, which allow participants to try out new skills, from learning how to do prakash and take a hukam in the morning to singing a sabad and conducting its viakhia. There are also organized activities in the afternoon like canoeing, archery, rope course, zip lining etc.
To make Sidak accessible to couples with young kids, there is a Junior Sidak which allows entire families to attend. Daljeet Singh and his wife Gurpreet Kaur, physicians from California, came with their two daughters. "[Junior Sidak] allowed both of us to go to class, when, originally, we thought we'd have to be switching," said Daljeet Singh. "I want to say to anyone who thinks they shouldn't come here because they have young kids-let me say that it is doable."
Since its inception, Sidak has hosted participants from Canada, England, Scotland, Australia and the United States.
Come and experience the magnificence of Canada's West Coast with mountains, stillness, woods and lakes, ideal environment for introspection, reflection and learning. Check out the site at www.khalsacentre.ca

Testimonials
"Sidak is not just a didactic Sikhi and leadership-training camp- it is a forum for personal growth and creating a sense of community. Intelligent discussion in my classroom has introduced me to new dimensions of Sikhi, and the community atmosphere fostered at Sidak makes learning a multilateral experience. I have grown from Sidak not only from knowledge and information received from my instructors, but also from the opinions and insights of my peers. I leave Sidak not simply more factually inclined to Sikhi, but with a solid foundation and background from which I can think independently in a Sikh lens to further develop a knowledgeable perspective about Gurbani and Sikh history. The political relevancy of Sidak only adds new dimensions to the endless applicability of Sikhism. Sidak is the best hope our generation has for creating aware, intelligent, and active Sikhs of tomorrow." Simran Chadha - Placentia, CA
"I learned so much during these two weeks. I appreciated the seriousness and level of academic rigor during the program. That being said, I also appreciated meeting new sangat from across the United States, Canada and United Kingdom. I feel like I made wonderful connections with the other "Sidakers". The instructors were so knowledgeable and helpful, and were excellent facilitators. I would definitely recommend Sidak to a friend-it is intense, but a great experiences. Just be ready for very little sleep " Satprit Kaur - Lynnwood, WA
