Welcome to Operation Walk Maryland We are a private, not-for-profit, volunteer medical service organization that provides free surgical treatment for patients in developing countries and in the United States. We treat those suffering from disabling arthritis and other debilitating bone and joint conditions. Our mission is to help those who have little to no access to life-improving care. We provide all care including joint replacement implants at no cost. This is possible through the generous donations of our individual and corporate supporters. In an effort to create a lasting contribution toward the care of patients around the world, Operation Walk Maryland team members also educate orthopedic surgeons and other health care professionals about advanced surgical techniques, disease treatments, and recovery procedures for hip and knee joint conditions. The surgeries we provide are life-changing. We help individuals and communities by "restoring hope through motion ... one joint at a time" |

2012 Ludhiana India Trip ~ February 2, 2012
The Operation Walk Maryland Team traveled to Ludhiana in the Punjab state of India this past January. The team consisted of 49 health care providers and volunteers who took care of impoverished patients needing hip and knee replacements. The surgeries were performed by the Operation Walk team at Dayanand Medical College and hospital.
This was the most successful Operation Walk Maryland trip to date. There were 70 joint replacements performed in 59 patients (some pictures below). The team also made an impact by training local nurses, therapists, and orthopaedic residents. ” It was a very rewarding trip, and we accomplished all our goals,” said Paul Khanuja, medical director. ”We helped people in need, and we left an impact by training our colleagues to improve the care they deliver.”

July 2012 Update
Please read the following about our July 2012 follow up.
Maria and I had a follow up clinic in Ludhiana, Punjab, India on July 2012. We saw 38 patients in follow up. A few months after each surgical mission, we return to perform these check ups. They were all doing well. The patients thanked us profusely and asked us about specific members of the team. On these follow up trips we see the dramatic impact the surgeries have made on the patients and their families. The supporters of Operation Walk Maryland make this happen. Thank you to them. - Paul Khanuja, MD
