Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle Canada wins the hearts of Canadian Youth

Tears flowed from the eyes of a young Kaur. When asked the reason, she said she was amazed to see the history of Sikhs. She was never exposed to the history in such an impressive way as it is done in the Gurmat Crash Courses (To learn more about Gurmat Crash Courses visit www.ggssc.ca) delivered by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle(GGSSC).

On Dec. 24-25-26 GGSSC delivered a Crash Course on Martyrs at Rexdale Sikh SpiritualCentre in Toronto. Over 460 attendees filled the large hall with the younger ones sitting in the front rows and the youth towards the back. “Almost 100 youths registered for this course” – says S. Jagdish Singh ji who is the national Patron for GGSSC Canada.

The course was on the topic- The Blood of Our Martyrs PART 2 and covered all shaheeds from Bota Singh-Garja Singh to Baba Deep Singh ji.

GGSSC delivered a spell-binding presentation which was a well arranged array of speeches, videos, interaction and games.

In the end of the course they had a beautiful game on ‘ Who wants to be a Sikhonaire’ that was to recap the learnings.

Finally, came the time to do the promise. Yes! All the attendees made a promise to Guru Gobind Singh ji that they will never steal, say lies or drink wine or take drugs and most importantly that they will never cut their hair.

Parents were surprised to see how these kids who were as big as 19-24 could sit in the Gurdwara for so long. One of the sevadars said that when the course got over for day 2 some kids said- “ can we stay and continue?” The sevadar was surprised that this is the first time that he saw attendees not ready to leave a program in the Gurdwara because generally kids get bored quickly as they do not get engaged.

Another interesting piece was a group of 35 kids acting in a drama of the ‘Great Sikh Woman in Mir Mannu’s Jail’. This can be seen at http://sikhspiritualcentre.ca/gurugobindstudycircle.html

One thing is for sure. GGSSC Canada has mastered the way to connect with the youth. If you need a recipe to engage youth into Sikhee in your area, act now. See www.ggssc.ca for more information.
