Tue, 17 May 2011 - AMRITSAR: In order to facilitate visiting tourists to Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) district administration has decided to run a pre-paid taxi service from the Golden Temple Complex, said Deputy Commissioner. Kahan Singh Pannu here Tuesday.
He informed that the tenders for the same have been floated and the service would commence in a months’ time.
Pannu said that the taxis would be parked few yards away from the Golden Temple and the booking counters would be set up very near to Golden Temple Complex. However, more than one l lakh tourists come to Golden Temple and historic Jallianwala Bagh on daily basis.
Most of the tourists feel harassed at the hands of taxi drivers who usually charge them exorbitant fare.
Therefore, with a view to provide hustle free transport service to the visitors, administration decided to start a Pre-paid Taxi Service.
The said service has been decided to be started in consultation with SGPC authorities.
A similar service is also being run successfully from Sri Guru Ramdas International (Rajasansi) Airport, Amritsar.
