The president of SGPC then visited the United States along with some officials and discussed the issue with Shamsher Singh.

Shamsher is keen that the SGPC should set up a Sikh cultural centre so that the Sikh community is in touch with their cultural heritage.

Sikh mission in US

Makkar confirmed that SGPC leaders will set up a Sikh Mission in Washington. This would be for the first time that the SGPC will have a mission out of the country.

Makkar also informed that many Sikhs, who are settled in countries other than India, have offered lands to the SGPC in order to set up Sikh missions.

So far, the committee has faced difficulties in sending Guru Granth Sahib in a respectful manner to foreign countries. This issue has been discussed by many Sikh Intellectuals over there.

The SGPC is trying to seek land in the United States to facilitate easy printing of Guru Granth Sahib and many Sikhs have show interest, stated Makkar.
