SCHOLARSHIP CHEQUES HANDED OVER TO RECIPIENTS OF PERPETUAL SCHOLARSHIPS AND
"RELIEF COMMITTEE OF GREATER NEW YORK" SCHOLARSHIPS


A. To students of Eastern Region of Delhi

Function (13K)Function was held on 9th May 2014 for handing over the Scholarship Cheques to students belonging to Eastern Region of Delhi at Gurdwara Dera Baba Karam Singh Sahib, Rashid Market, Patparganj Road, Delhi.

A total of 25 scholarship recipients (20 for Relief Committee of Greater New York, USA

Scholarships and 5 for Perpetual Scholarships) received the Cheques. S. Davinder Singh, East Delhi Coordinator for Nishkam made elaborate arrangements to make the event successful. After the Ardaas in the Gurdwara Sahib, S. Davinder Singh addressed the students and other invitees and highlighted the purpose of these scholarships.

Thanking the Perpetual Donors and the Relief Committee for their kind gesture to help the needy students by making generous donations, he elaborated the selection procedure for selection of needy but brilliant students for these scholarships.

B. To students of Shahabad, Haryana

Scholarship Cheques Distribution Function for students of Shahabad, Haryana has been schedule for 2nd June 2014.

SHDF CHEQUES DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION HELD AT NISHKAM BHAWAN, NEW DELHI

SHDF Scholarship Cheques to the scholarship recipients of Delhi Centre were handed over in a Function held at Nishkam Bhawan, New Delhi on 3rd May 2014. S. PS Bami, Chairman?cum?Managing Director, NTPC (Retd.) and Indian Advisor, SHDF was the Chief Guest. Other Dignitaries on the dais included Prof RPS Suri, Prof in Computer Engineering (Retd.), IIT Delhi; Dr. JS Nanra, President, NSWC; S. Ajit Singh, Member, NSWC and Convener, SHDF Scholarship Project; S. Harbhajan Singh (JP), General Secretary, NSWC and S. Gurmukh Singh, Manager, SHDF Division. Many other Members of Nishkam Council, parents of some students and visitors were also present on this occasion.

The function started with the welcome of Delegates with bouquets of flowers and the recitation of Mool Mantra. In his welcome address, S. Harbhajan Singh welcomed the Chief Guest and other Dignitaries and informed about the Nishkam Council activities and elaborated on its various projects. Dr. Nanra delivered the Presidential Address in which he elaborated the working relationship between NSWC and SHDF and highlighted the achievements of the SHDF Scholarship Project being implemented by Nishkam since its inception. He told the students to work hard and qualify for next scholarship to complete their higher education. He also advised the students to work for the betterment of society and help the needy students after getting gainful employment. S. Ajit Singh, in his address, presented the progress in the SHDF Scholarship Project from its implementation and said that the number and amount of SHDF Scholarships had been increasing every year, thereby benefitting more and more needy students. S. Harbhajan Singh, Founder President and Senior Member of NSWC also addressed the gathering. He stressed on the moral values of life and elaborated the principles of living a successful life. He said that meditation and concentration play an important part in life. He cited examples of students who have gained successful employment after completion of their studies and started paying back to the society a part of their earnings on regular basis to meet expenses for education of other needy students. He concluded his address with the elaboration of medical and other facilities provided by Nishkam to needy persons.

Prof Ram Pal Suri, a retired senior Professor from IIT Delhi and Guest of Honour of the function, urged the students to look out as to how to become a good citizen. He elaborated on various measures and cited examples so as to become a good family member, a good socially active person and ultimately a good human being. He said that 'Sewa' is above all the religions and students must follow the principles of selfless service to become a good human being. In his address, the Chief Guest, Hon'ble S. PS Bami, said that SHDF was doing a great job which, at the same time, was wonderfully implemented by Nishkam Council over a number of years. Remembering S. Amarjit Singh Sodhi for the services rendered by him to materialize the concept of SHDF Scholarships, he said that the dedicated staff at SHDF Division in India maintained record of each & every application received for scholarship and executed the processing as per set norms. Referring to the declining economic growth of Punjab during the last ten years, he said that the matter was of concern to all of us so as to educate the society for social upliftment of Punjab from such a low status. He concluded his address with thanks to Prof Suri and other speakers for sharing their valuable experiences of life with students. After this, a film on SHDF activities, made for the SHDF Fund Raising Gala Event being held at USA on 4th May 2014, was screened. This followed the distribution of SHDF Scholarship Cheques to students by the Chief Guest and other Delegates on the dais. S. Kultaran Singh Kochhar, Senior Deputy GM?Corporate Affairs, M/s Jagsonpal Pharmaceuticals Ltd., New Delhi and a regular Donor of Nishkam also graced the occasion as Special Invitee. A total of 41 scholarship recipients received the Cheques.

The function came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by S. Harbhajan Singh (JP) and serving of light refreshment to students and Delegates.

VISIT TO MATA GUJRI SUKH NIWAS ON 11TH MAY 2014

Dr J S Nanra, President, NSWC; S. Kawaljit Singh Talwar, Member, NSWC and S. Baljeet Singh, Coordinator, Nishkam Council visited Mata Gujri Sukh Niwas on 11th May 2014 to overview the functioning of the Sukh Niwas, discuss requirements for its inmates and meeting the officials handling the day-to-day activities of the Sukh Niwas.

Dr. J.S. Nanra and others met the three responsible persons, Prof (Mrs.) Kiran Preet Kaur, Chair Person, MGSN; S. Davinder Singh, Manager and S. Narinder Pal Singh, Moral Education Teacher, who are involved in day?to?day activities of the Sukh Niwas and discussed about the procedure for distribution of materials to resident children and old-age inmates. They also discussed the problems faced by these officials.

Both Dr Nanra and S. Kanwaljit Singh Talwar left on the same day but S. Baljeet Singh was told to stay back for about a week and further interact with the inmates of the Sukh Niwas and managing officials to study various aspects involving availability of food, clothing, residential amenities, transportation facilities and health and education facilities for all the inmates.

S. Baljeet Singh has submitted a detailed report to the Nishkam Management about his findings.

It has also been informed by Mata Gujri Sukh Niwas that four new students have been admitted during the month of May 2014.

VISIT TO YAMUNA NAGAR BRANCH

After a short stay at the Mata Gujri Sukh Niwas, Kharar; Dr J S Nanra and S. Kanwaljit Singh proceeded to visit the Yamuna Nagar Branch of Nishkam Council on the same day i.e. 11th May 2014 to see the progress regarding construction of the building and other activities/Projects. They met the local Project Members and discussed all aspects. It was observed that the progress of building construction was satisfactory The construction of the structure being completed, the interior work had been taken up. The Medical Centre as well as the Dental Centre had also been doing very well.

PERPETUAL SCHOLARSHIP ACTIVITIES DURING MAY 2014

Following are the details of the Donations received during May 2014 from Hon'ble Donors for initiating Perpetual Scholarships:-

  • Received from S. Jagjit Singh Ji an amount of US $2,500/- for instituting Perpetual Scholarship in sweet memory of his parents, Late S. Gurmukh Singh Ji & Sdn. Raj Kaur Ji. Scholarships equivalent to annual students wef April 2015.
  • Received from Mrs. Gita Sikand Ji an amount of `1,00,000/- for instituting Perpetual Scholarship on behalf of her Grand Daughter 'Laila Grace Mayor'. Scholarships equivalent to annual amount of interest will be given to needy students wef April 2015.
  • Received from Mrs. Amarjit Kaur Ji an amount of US $240/- for instituting One-Time Perpetual Scholarship in sweet memory of her parents. The amount donated is equivalent to `12,000/?. Hence four Scholarships, each amounting to `3,000/? per student has been given to following four needy students:

         1. Ms. Isha, 2. S. Prabhdeep Singh, 3. Ms. Sukhvinder Kaur and 4. Ms. Kawaljeet Kaur

DR. REDDY'S FOUNDATION JOB FAIR ORGANIZED AT NISHKAM BHAWAN

Dr. Reddy’s Foundation conducted a Job Fair in the premises of Nishkam Bhawan on 23rd May 2014. In this Fair, 12 panel employers, 187 aspirants from 5 Lab Centres and 2 PWD Centres participated. Some of the aspirants got the offer of appointment there itself. Facilitators from the Centres who came with the aspirants motivated them before the interview sessions. Shri Vikas Kumar Lal, Senior Manager, Dr. Reddy’s Foundation thanked Nishkam management for brilliant infrastructural support and superb coordination of activities connected with the aspirants and all other who were part of the Job Fair. NISHKAM SIKLIGAR ACTIVITIES DURING MAY 2014

  • 53 new Sikligar students have been admitted in various schools during the month of May 2014. Out of all these new students, 27 have been admitted Sunways Public School, Baghpat, Haryana; 22 in C S Academy, UP and 4 in Modern Inter College, UP>
  • A Summer Camp was organized during May 2014 at S S D Public School, Aligarh in which a total of 19 Sikligar students took part and got benefitted with a number of activities related to overall development. Some pictures taken on the occasion are given below.

Students are taking part in dance program. They were also given the Participation Certificates by the Dignitaries. On the whole, it was a novel fun & learning experience for the students.

NISHKAM MEDICAL CENTRE ACTIVITIES DURING MAY 2014

In the Nishkam Medical Centre functional at Nishkam Bhawan, New Delhi, details of various medical services/facilities provided during the month of May 2014 are as given below:-
