Event Details:
The New York City (NYC) Sikh Parade is an annual commemoration event celebrating Vaisakhi, the anniversary of the origin of Khalsa and the first Amrit initiation ceremony of 1699. Participants and spectators from around the country come to attend the exciting event. Sikh Parade is held by Non-Profit, Sikh Cultural Society.org of Richmond Hill New York. Usually set for third or the last Saturday in April. This year it was planned on 23rdApr2016, started from 38th Street Madison ave to walk dow n till 24thstreet Madison ave park.
The event included a float bearing the Shri Guru Granth Sahib ji (the Sikh's holy scripture) and many other floats accompanied by marchers representing various gurudwara’s and religious groups. Kirtan was performed by ragis on floats. Multiple Gatka troupes performed Gatka (sikh martial arts) moving along the floats. Marching banners included groups from New York police department, Indian officers association and Sikh motorcycle club. Guru ka langar (community kitchen) was served at the end of parade.
