MONTREAL - Montreal’s Sikh community has donated $11,000 worth of food and grocery-store gift certificates to Sun Youth Organization to help victims of fires.
The charitable organization has seen an increase in the number of fires and victims it has been asked to help this year, said Sun Youth executive director Sid Stevens. By the end of October, it was getting a fire call every 36 hours, and helped 775 people affected by 175 fires.
Two temples - Gurudwara Sahib Quebec in Montreal and Gurudwara Sahib Greater Montreal in Dollard-des-Ormeaux - on Sunday gave Sun Youth $3,000 in gift certificates and food worth $8,000.
“These are certainly going to come in handy with all these firebombings** taxing our resources,” Stevens said.
