The third edition of Mela Phulkari show at India Habitat Centre is on these days ~ 7th  - 17th April 2016.

This is a little insight into the event.

Mela Phulkari 3 uses phulkari as a pivot to re-interpret stories about Punjab. Phulkari is a tool which signifies various connotations - past n present of Punjab. Phulkari is used as a metaphor for women empowerment, social bonding, narratives of life, tributes to Punjab's institutions, movements n heroes, places n people. For eg. we have shown the inclusiveness of family bonding primarily women through the various of the tambu created with baaghs. Similarly Khulla Sher is a collaborative effort where women in Sangrur are encouraged to create embroidered patches, their interpretations of Punjab whether its a motive or a poem.

In Mela Phulkari 1 we introduced the rich craft of phulkari making Punjab to our audience. In the next we showcased Punjab and its essentials phulkari being one of them. In the 2nd mela we started thread of collaboration with other designers n design students. Mela 3 is a continuation of this effort. This year we have more people working on Punjab through the common thread of phulkari. Each Mela Phulkari edition is a stepping stone for the next. We pave paths not only to tell stories but to create new grounds for the next Mela Phulkari.

The exhibition had a brilliant opening
