'Lighting the Way' - Art Exhibition |
Guru Nanak Mission, is a non-profit organisation run by young Sikhs in Derby. The mission helps to provide hot meals for the homeless in Derby City Centre every Saturday and Sunday. We would like to make SikhNet readers and all others aware of an art exhibition that we are currently organising, and we hope that some of you may be interested in submitting art work towards it. The exhibition is another incentive directed by the group, to spread the wisdom of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The project, Lighting the Way is based on a Guru Nanak Dev Ji quote taken from Kirtan Sohila, focusing on the concepts of light and unity:
Amongst all is the Light-You are that Light.
We are currently looking for artists: professional, amateur, young and old, to contribute to the upcoming exhibition, taking place at the Quad on the 24th and 25th of April 2015. We feel this would be an excellent chance for talented members of the community to present their artwork to the wider public. The exhibition is open to all, including Sikh and non-Sikh, reflecting Guru Nanak Dev Ji's message of equality. As the exhibition will also coincide with the WWI centenary events, we would also welcome pieces which incorporate elements of the Great War alongside the exhibition theme, reflecting upon the inspiring acts of humanity that surfaced through such difficult times. Sikh soldiers played a critical role in these efforts and the exhibition will work to highlight their selfless service and bravery. We have already received some inspirational entries. Gurmit Kaur, the author of The Big Beautiful Light and Me, which has been published on SikhNet, has produced a number of paintings and poetry for the exhibition. Jagmohan Singh from The Royal Jesters, is another Sikh artist who will be exhibiting several of his pieces in April. If you would like to submit work you can email an image of you artwork or poetry to [email protected]. If you require further information on the exhibition and/or wish to attend the event, please visit our Facebook page, which we will keep updated with the latest developments and news of the exhibition: www.facebook.com/lightingtheway.art
