We can think of the great humanitarian enterprises which bring relief to those who are suffering - the Red Cross, the Red Crescent or Islamic Relief, CAFOD and Christian Aid, Hindu Aid and SEWA International, World Jewish Relief and Khalsa Aid - all the charities which draw inspiration from the teachings of the different faiths. - Tony Blair |
Sir Winston Churchill once famously said "we make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give".
For every Sikh the essence of this is instilled within them by the teachings of Guru Nanak. It is this very principle that is motivating a few Khalsa Aid volunteers from West London to raise funds for the forgotten gems of the Sikh Panth. We all know of the events that preceded and followed the 1984 'Battle of Amritsar'. The frustration at the strength of the Sikh armed movement led the Indian government to target every Sikh male who was an Amritdhari, this resulted in a total genocide of the Sikh youth. We all know too well the lies and treachery associated with those horrific events. It shall never be forgotten.
It's time for us to take action. The very least we can do is help those who lost everything. It is our duty to help them. They gave their sons, daughters, husbands, wives - we will never be able to fully repay them for their sacrifice - but we can certainly try and help them financially. Khalsa Aid is already sponsoring over 60 families of the Shaheeds and 12 Dharmi Fauji families, with Gurus Grace we can raise funds to expand this program in Punjab.
On Friday 30th September 2011 motor-cyclists from around the UK will begin the 900 mile round trip from London to Glasgow. All monies raised will go to Khalsa Aid, more specifically the families of our fallen brothers and sisters.
Please donate generously and help our forgotten heroes.
