Friday, 26 August 2011, FATEHGARH SAHIB: Suffering from cancer Jatinder Kaur(42), an alumnus of Mata Gujri College, Fatehgarh Sahib, an epitome of grit and determination, was today honored during a function organized by Youth Club of the college in collaboration with Youth Services Department of Punjab government. Fatehgarh Sahib SP(Detective) Gurpreet Singh was chief guest of the function.
Jatinder Kaur, who is presently serving as teacher in Baba Zorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh Senior Secondary School(BZSBFS), Fatehgarh Sahib, was honored today in presence of her school principal Prof.R.S. Bajwa.
Born on September 30, 1969 in Nangal township in Ropar district in the house of Karnail Singh and Sudarshan Kaur, Jatinder did her matriculation from Government High School, Sirhind City ; B.Sc Medical from Mata Gujri College and B.Ed from Sant Darbara Singh College of Education, Lopon and M.Ed from State College of Education, Patiala. She has two other younger sisters. She joined her service as a teacher in 1988 when she was just 19. She got both her sisters married who are well settled now but chose not to marry herself. Her family hails from village Kot Fateh of district Mansa. Jatinder Kaur is suffering from Cancer which was detected on October 18, 2010. On August 12, 2011 her father expired. She performed all his last rites like a son. She shouldered the dead body of her father to the cremation ground and at time of cremation she lit the pyre. She did not shed even a single tear.

She availed medical leave when she was admitted in the hospital for operation as part of cancer treatment. Though the doctors of the Rajindra Hospital, Patiala cooperated with her but due to financial problem she did not continue her treatment. After that she joined school again and now she is performing all her duties. Prof. R.S. Bajwa said that Jatinder Kaur is a role model for the society. She is still fighting with ailment and she is determined to win.
During function at the college today, an essay writing competition was also organized. During the function, a pledge had been taken to eradicate the menaces afflicting the society like female foeticide, dowry system, environmental pollution, drug abuse. Gurpreet Singh, SP(D) said that youth have the power to raise voice against these social evils and could made our society free from these evils by the relentless efforts. Jeet Singh, Deputy Director Youth Services Department said that along with studies all the students should participate in such co-curricular activities which can be helpful in the raise of their level of confidence at different levels. The college principal Jitender Singh advised the young students to work smart and hard to achieve their set goals while participating such activities which is the important part of the education and overall personality development of the students.
Prof. Anupreet Singh Tiwana, Head of the Department of Geography informed that 82 students from different schools and colleges from the vicinity took part in this competition. Saplings were also distributed among the guests. Prof. Narinder Kaur, Randeep Kaur, Parminder Kaur Randhawa,Varinder Kaur , Navdeep Singh was also present on this occasion.
