Navpreet Singh was born and raised in Jaipur. When he had an inspiration from the internet he didn't just stop there he decided to keep the inspiration going. He decided to create his own facebook page where he took on the work of capturing people in their natural state and sharing a nugget about them. To see his facebook page click here.
BRIEF INTRO:
I am born and brought up in Jaipur, schooling from MPS and currently in my penultimate year of Bachelors in Computer Science Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Jaipur centre). Leisure time calls for reading books under the shade of a tree, hiking, clicking minimalistic and natural landscape pictures, solving Rubik's cube & English puzzles and fleeting through psychology articles. Spending time with family and going to Gurudwara daily is what I cherish the most.
STORY:
I ran a motivational, positivity and optimism blog called PeppyCubicle.com, it was going pretty well but after a while, I couldn't find time to update it regularly. It then became a kind of liability for me but I still wanted to run it somehow. Meanwhile, I came across a page on Facebook called Humans of New York. I saw some pictures and what I liked the most about them were the comments that poured in from strangers worldwide, which contained many positive things about that human in the photo. One comment made me want to read another and I almost spent 30 minutes of one photo. After those 30 minutes, I was filled with so much happiness and positivity. The air of optimism could be felt. And that is what struck me, it was related to my blog theme.
So I wondered if I could do something similar, meet random people on the streets, ask them about their life or work or experiences and post it online with a photo; hoping I would find the good that is hidden but present in every person, I would share the story that's always unheard, I would see how differently every one can think, I could get to know more people and know more about life from various angles and perspectives. The people in New York had a voice, so why not people in Jaipur can also have one?
The blog is not exactly on the model of that of New York one, as it has some themes for Monday (Monochrome Monday) and Friday (Foodie Friday).
Since the time I've started it, the journey hitherto comprised of lessons & learning, bitter-sweet replies, new friendships, plastered old ones and on the whole, a lovable community, whose member is everyone who is connected to the page, by his own photo, a photo of a friend or an observer. There have been times when people recognized me when I approached them to take a little interview, times when the ones I posted helped me with maintaining this photo blog, while other times when people have got scared or rebuked me, thinking I am some young journalist trying to click photos and write anything inflammatory, trying to pass time or make money.
But the only way to go past such hurdles was to go through them; I have gone through them, to the extent that I feel I may have some good knowledge of body language, communication skills and how to connect to people of different age/gender/religion. Not that I am boasting of it, just that I have grown, in this journey, as an individual. It has boosted my faith that there is something unique in everybody, be it a teenager, adolescent or elderly. I also sometimes try to come forward to extend help in their initiatives, projects, or any new ventures that they take up.
