American basketball player Aman Mangat, who is a forward point specialist, was in city to give a three-week basketball coaching to the top players, at the special camp. Aman Mangat belongs to Nelon village of Punjab, and visits the country to meet her relatives.

It's thanks to the passion for the game that she wanted to contribute towards better sports in the country. Aman Mangat came in contact with Punjab Basketball Academy through Facebook, as she read about Punjab basketball player Satnam Singh, who is getting trained in the US. “I read about the success story of Satnam Singh, who is from Baba Lodhiana Academy, being run by Punjab Basketball Association. I was amazed and excited to know that a basketball academy also existed in Punjab. That's when I decided to contribute whatever I could to the basketball players here and got in touch with PBA,“ said Aman.

General secretary of Punjab Basketball Association, Teja Singh Dhaliwal said Aman Mangat showed interest in contributing towards the game in Punjab. So, she was invited for the training session that provides foreign basketball coaches an exposure to the players of Punjab.

He said that Aman Mangat, who has born and brought up in America, picked up the game being in the US, it being the hub of basketball.

Aman further said, “My parents belong to Nelon village of Ludhiana, and I came to India to visit them. I really wanted to do anything I could to let the world know of Indian players.“

“I will teach them techniques that are still not popular in India. I want them to bring laurels for the nation and make us all proud,“ added Aman.

Deputy commissioner of police, Yurinder Singh Hayer inaugurated the training camp on Tuesday evening at the Guru Nanak Stadium.

About the difference between Indian and American basketball players, she said, “American players are very aggressive in their approach, which is lacking in India. But here, players have a great team spirit, which is not found very often in American players.“
