TURLOCK, Calif. -- When Turlock business owner Tehal Dosanjh found a stack of money in a drop box at the Farmers and Merchant Bank he said, he was shocked.
“I looked at the deposit tag,” said Dosanjh. “It came out to over $16,000. I was shocked, I couldn't believe it.”
Dosanjh said he went to make a deposit, and when he opened the drop box he found the money.
The bank was closed, so he took the money home and put it in a safe place.
Having all that cash overnight was never a temptation, Dosanjh said.
“I knew what I had to do the next morning, which was to return it to the bank.”
Dosanjh said his parents and the Sikh religion taught him honesty and hard work.
“I have been blessed with so much I really wanted to give it back to (person) that really earned it,” he said.
A spokesperson for the bank told KCRA the customer before Dosanjh never deposited the large sum of money correctly. They were very thankful Dosanjh returned the money so they could get it to the rightful owner.
“I really feel good,” Dosanjh said. “There is nothing else I could have done.”
