November 9, 2013: Fresno's Sikh community presented a donation Saturday to the Poverello House that will pay for 40,000 meals for the month of November.
The Sikh community has given this particular donation for the past five years in celebration of the birthday of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee, the founder of the Sikh religion in the 15th century. This year Sikhs will celebrate the guru's 545th birthday.
The donation will feed breakfast, lunch and dinner to those who utilize the nonprofit's services for the entire month of November.
Other organizations who wish to contribute to the Poverello House during the holidays can contact Kathryn Weakland, Poverello House director of development and communications, at (559) 977-0880 or (559) 498-6988.
