Gurmustuk Singh Khalsa from the US, who has founded popular website Sikhnet.com, said the website he created for the youth 20 years ago to connect to teachings of Guru Nanak has become a resource for Sikhism.
The website now receives over 6 lakh views a month from various parts of the world, he said. “People have so many challenges everyday and they need support. This is where the teachings of the Guru help in bringing peace,” he said.
He said the traffic to the website comes not just from India, but different parts of the world. He said with Guru Nanak’s teachings being universal, as these apply to everyone, people in different parts of the world were turning Sikhs.
“Sikhism is growing popular in different parts of the world including the US, China, Chile, Brazil and several South American countries. The Guru Granth Sahib has been translated in Spanish language as well and they have a resource to understand Guru Nanak’s teachings,” he said.
Talking about the discrimination he faced while growing up in the US, he said: “Guru ji gave us this identity to stand out, yet many people coming to the US or other countries from India tend to cut their hair. But it is also an opportunity to reach out and tell about the teachings of the Guru.” “Rather than being confined to a community and families, the teachings need to reach out to people so that they can inspire others,” he said.
