Amritsar, Feb 21 - The first Sikh in American Army, Dr. Tejdeep Singh Rattan, during his visit to India here today visited the historic Sikh educational intuition Khalsa College Amritsar.
During his visit in the college he interacted with the girl students of Khalsa College and shared his experiences in American army.
He disclosed the fact that life in U.S. has been for him “One of ups and downs". He had faced a multitude of hardships and finally emerged victorious. He said that he had never given up as he had utmost faith on Almighty since his fight was genuine.
Being a Sikh he was considered to be a disadvantage but he appealed to the Pentagon and was finally selected. Dr. Rattan would be shortly commissioned to serve in Afghanistan as a Captain in U.S. Army, he added.
He revealed to the students that "Sikhs mean a lot to the World" and was hopeful that taking him as an example more Sikh boys would do things which are considered to be difficult for them.
He was also rejected on several occasions only because of the symbols of Sikh faith which he always refused to give up.
He said that in future he would follow the ethics of Sikhism in letter and spirit.
Earlier, Principal Dr. Daljit Singh accorded warm welcome to Dr. Rattan and said that it was a proud moment for Khalsa College as one of its alumni had proved that there is no meaning in the phrase “I can't do this". Everything is possible if one has the determination and desire to put in One's best efforts. 'The best example is Tejdeep Singh Rattan' he said.
Dr. Daljit Singh honoured the guest for bringing respect to the entire Sikh Community.
