ppr2 (1848K)Fatehgarh Sahib (July 06, 2011): Fatehgarh Sahib has turned to be first district of Punjab to fully and firmly stand up in favour of clemency for Professor Devinderpal Singh Bhullar. All the 428 village Panchayats and four municipal councils, besides 57 other recognized bodies in the district have adopted resolutions seeking clemency for Prof. Bhullar. Bhullar’s clemency petition was rejected by President of India on 26th May.

“All these resolutions shall be forwarded to President of India and copies shall be tendered to Prime Minister and Home Minister of India’s offices, besides the Akal Takhat and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee” declared Harpal Singh Cheema, Secretary General of Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani).

People of Fatehgarh Sahib, through their elected bodies like village Panchayats and Municipal Councils, have given their full support to the “Save Prof. Bhullar Campaign” carried by Panch Pardhani in the district. The campaign is carried in accordance with decision taken by Professor Devinderpal Singh Bhullar Defence Committee, an umbrella organization of various Panthic bodies, Sikh political parties, Human rights organizations and social and religious groups, informed Cheema.

He added that there were 459 villages in Fatehgarh Sahib but only 428 had village Panchayats due to joint Panchayats in some villages, while a few fell with in jurisdiction of municipal councils.

“In all we have received 485 resolutions from Fatehgarh Sahib district which also includes resolutions adopted by all Farmers’ bodies and various registered bodies/clubs” he added.

“Panch Pardhani shall also be conducting similar campaigns in other districts of Punjab” he claimed. He said that it was a welcome move that people of Fatehgarh Sahib have placed aside their party differences and have come forward to speak up against alleged politico-judicial murder of Professor Bhullar.
