Tribune: The SGPC's efforts to offer chemical free 'langar' to the devotees at Golden Temple have started yielding results. On an experimental basis, the committee has earmarked 40 acres at Gurdwara Gurusar Satlani Sahib to be developed as a model farm and the produce generated from here will be used for preparing langar. The first lot of vegetables grown organically in this farm has reached the Golden Temple community kitchen. This included carrot, radish, cabbage, spinach, fenugreek seed (methi) etc. Read More.. Hindustan Times: The 1-lakh-plus pilgrims partaking of langar in the Golden Temple community kitchen round the clock every day now have organic vegetables on their plate. It doesn't fulfill the requirement though, as the shrine gets only a 10-quintal supply every three-to-four days; but the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) plans to increase the volume later by running the programme at gurdwaras that have land to grow organic food. SED has been popularized by the Washington-based organization EcoSikh since 2010 and this year's focus was to go organic. This day marks the New Year in the Sikh Calender and the Gurgaddi Diwas (enthronement day) of the sixth Guru, Sri Guru Har Rai Ji, who is remembered in Sikh history for his deep sensitivity to nature, its preservation and the well-being of animals. Mohali: EcoSikh along with Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha, organized organic products exhibition-cum-sale at Gurdwara Sahib phase-4, Mohali, to mark the celebrations of Sikh Environment Day on March 14th, 2016. The event received a great response from the sangat who came to pay the obeisance at gurdwara. A great response for organic products was witnessed. This event was able to establish a connect between the sangat and local farmers. This mode of celebration was chosen to promote the message of "Nanak Kheti is Uttam Kheti". As a part of awareness, farmers brought several varieties of organic products including vegetables, pulses, breads etc for sale to revive the tradition of healthy and chemical-free food. During the event President of Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha, JP Singh, Spokesperson of Akhand Kirtani Jatha, RP Singh, a budding farming enthusiast Inderjit Kaur, and General Secretary of Farmers for Safe Food Society, Mohanjit Singh were also present. Over 10,000 devotees partook in Langar at Baba Sewa Singh Hall at Sultanwind in Amritsar, during the three day event. As a part of awareness, exhibition and sale of organic products like vegetables, pulses, flour, rice, jaggery and pickles were procured directly from organic farmers of Jalandhar for this mega celebration marking the birth of Khalsa. Nanak Kheti is Uttam Kheti - Says EcoSikh Ferozepur: Over 120 farmers attended a one-day workshop on Organic Farming (Kudrati-Kheti) organized by Ecosikh in collaboration with Living Successfully Foundation at Village Lalchian, Guru Harsahai, Ferozepur. The workshop funded by Datawind, aimed to promote organic farming in Punjab and create demand and marketing opportunity for organic food products that will support farmer community and ultimately benefit the health of Punjab's population, it's rivers and soils. The workshop was conducted by Master Rajbir Singh of renowned Pingalwara Charitable Trust of Amritsar. Master Rajbir Singh delivered a step by step information on the package and practices of natural farming and answered all the queries that the farmers had for shifting from chemical based farming to natural farming. He stated, "Bhagat Puran Singh has shown us a great way towards conservation of planet and Pingalwara Trust is working day and night to educate farmers of Punjab to cultivate their lands in Guru Nanak's way."
