JasSandhu (13K)Dr. Jas Sandhu, the first Gursikh bestowed "The Award of Fellow of ASNT 2010". This award recognizes Dr. Jas Sandhu as an individual of unusual professional distinction, and recognition for his continued significant contributions to the advancement of Nondestructive Testing (NDT).

Earlier Dr. Jas Sandhu was awarded "Research Award for Innovation 2010" for his breakthrough innovation of Acoustography, a novel ultrasonic imaging method. This award was established to recognize highly distinguished individual breakthroughs in research in NDT. No more than one such award may be given in any calendar year and need not be given if there are no outstanding candidates nominated for the award.

2010 winner Jaswinder S. Sandhu is the president of Santec Systems, Inc and is best known for his pioneering work in developing "Acoustography," a novel ultrasound imaging method. Sandhu has dedicated most of his professional career to developing Acoustography for various industrial and medical applications. He is currently collaborating with various aerospace companies to develop Acoustography to provide dramatically faster NDI of composites. Sandhu's dedicated effort earned him the Best Paper Award in 2001 by SPIE-The International Society for Optical Engineering. Sandhu is the recipient of more than 15 patents and has authored over 40 papers and reports in the field of Acoustography. Sandhu received B.Sc (honors) in Physics from the University of Sussex (UK) in 1975 and M.Sc in Solid State Physics from the University of London (UK) in 1976. He then went on to do research work in the field of Ultrasonics and received his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of London in 1980.

After graduate school, Sandhu joined ITT Corporation and then worked for a private venture. In 1989 he decided to start his own company - Santec Systems, Inc - to develop and commercialize Acoustography.

He is happy to share with our family and friends, that after winning the "Research Award for Innovation" for his breakthrough innovation of Acoustography, a novel ultrasonic imaging method, my husband, Dr Sandhu (affectionately called Jassi by friends or 'tabla teacher' by children), has been notified by the American Society of Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) that he has been selected for an ASNT Fellow award. This prestigious award will be presented to him at the Awards Ceremony at the 2010 ASNT Fall Conference and Quality Testing Show in Houston, Texas, November , 15-19. This award recognizes Dr. Jaswinder Sandhu as an individual of unusual professional distinction, and recognition for his continued significant contributions to the advancement of Nondestructive Testing. This is again a proud moment for the Sikh Community because Dr. Sandhu is the first Gursikh to receive this award. We are thankful to Waheguru for this historic event.
