Dec 29, 2011: The extreme cold weather could not deter the spirit of devotees who swept the roads barefoot as nagar kirtan passed through various areas of Model Town on Wednesday. Over 1,000 of them turned up to participate in the nagar kirtan organized to mark the birth anniversary of tenth Sikh master Guru Gobind Singh.
Starting from Gurdwara Singh Sabha in Model Town, the procession passed through Krishna Mandir, Ishmeet Chowk, Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital, Middha Chowk, Gulati Chowk and Char Khamba road before returning to the Gurdwara.
The Gatka artists exhibited their talent in the procession while many residents distributed community food at various places on the way. The birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh falls on December 31.
"Participating in a nagar kirtan is different from all other spiritual experiences. God bestows his best wishes on those who involve themselves in it with devotion,'' said Amritpal Singh, a businessman from Model Town.
Manjinder Kaur, a homemaker and Shastri Nagar resident, said she has been actively participating in every nagar kirtan organized in the city. "Its an experience that purifies my soul and I feel everyone should participate in nagar kirtan,'' she added.
