Children's Gurdwara today was a true journey of transition and integration. Our modern celebrations were infused with a touch of British culture. As everyone was celebrating the Queen’s Jubilee, we celebrated our British and Sikh heritage and our universal Khalsa Identity.
The children discovered how they were unique and royal themselves. They looked at their Guru and the throne, they discovered that all Sikhs wear a crown of long hair on their head and made their own parallels. Our palace was not just Buckingham Palace, but the beautiful Gurdwaras all over the world that serve food to those who have nothing and do not distinguish between rich and poor but consider all as equals. The true message of sarbat da bhalla manifests when each Sikh acknowledges their duty to serve one another as well as the wider community in which they live.
How are we sure we are royalty?
We have our own Nishaan Sahib, our own insignia and our own national anthem!

The children were overjoyed discovering that they do not have to be royal by birth or blood alone!
Each of them were part of the royal parivaar, the family of love, the family of sarbat da bhalla.
We looked at the majestic animals in the Guru's court and the strength of the kirpaan, weapons were previously only given to those who were royal or rich, but each Sikh is entitled to a kirpaan in our Kingdom, the Kingdom that defends the poor and gives freedom to all.
We had an amazing evening. Thank you all the parents who made it possible, please enjoy these photos of our British Sikh Nishaan Sahibs that we very carefully made and finally we learnt about our royal names given to us by our our very own Sovereign Guru.
May Guru guide us to be the servants of the Name.
