What do you get when you mix one-part meditation, one-part sports, one-part exotic island camp and equal-parts love for Guru Hargobind Sahib?  Camp Miri Piri 2012!

Camp Miri Piri was founded in 2004 by the Sikh Sevaks of Singapore to give the youth an experience of the true Khalsa lifestyle.

The camp theme for 2012 is “The Spiritual Warrior” – and the most fitting leaders will be there – Guru Jodha Singh, Gurutej Singh, Harimander Singh, Sat Pavan Kaur, Renuka Kaur, and Manprit Kaur.  And of course, guided once again by the camp Jathadars - Rajveer Singh Khalsa and Guru Jaswant Kaur Khalsa.

The camp day begins in the peaceful hours of the morning with a group recitation of the morning Banis followed by stretching and yoga exercises. With the sunrise, Gurutej Singh will take everyone for warrior games and his famous workout.  Throughout the day there will be inspiring classes, group discussions, and workshops conducted by the camp teachers. There will be sports and chill-out time including afternoon games at the beach.  In the evenings, the camp will echo with blissful kirtan and katha.

Camp Miri Piri will be held from the 2nd to 6th of June 2012 on beautiful St. John’s Island in Singapore.  St. John’s has been the site of so many Khalsa camps that the vibrations of the Guru buzz from the trees and grass.  This is the 8th Camp Miri Piri and the high vibrations begin the minute the sangat gathers in the Guru’s presence.  One of my most treasured memories of St. John’s Island is sitting in silence and watching the sunset over the Straits of Singapore, listening to waves kiss the shore with Rehras Sahib echoing in my mind.  Wahe Guru!

The camp is for ages 13 and up, and while there will be dozens of teenagers there, it really is a camp for all ages.  All you need is the willingness and yearning to spend some focused time meditating, doing yoga, and connecting to people of consciousness.

I know Singapore is a long way away – but what a GREAT opportunity to travel and meet sangat from that part of the world!  It always amazes me that, although the Sikhs are spread out all over the world, in our hearts we are just the same.  The sevadars in Singapore will guide you and help you make plans so you can enjoy some sightseeing too.
The sangat everywhere is invited join in a celebration of spirit, in the love of Guru Hargobind Sahib, and in the joy of being in the Sadh Sangat.
