After five years Camp Miri Piri will return to Espanola, the Mother Ashram. Camp Miri Piri began in Singapore growing from the vision of Rajveer Singh and the Sikh Sewaks of Singapore and inspired by Guru Hargobind. It has become an eagerly anticipated annual event in Southeast Asia, alternating between Singapore and Malaysia and elevating, motivating, challenging and inspiring hundreds.
The concept of Camp Miri Piri is simple: to have an in-depth experience of consciousness in the saint-soldier tradition begun by Guru Hargobind and refined by Guru Gobind Singh. The camp begins each morning with the five morning banis, to include Shabad Hazare, followed by Kundalini Yoga and the Aquarian Sadhana chants. After morning sadhana is PT, which for many is a highlight of the camp and challenges the participants to reach into themselves and go beyond self-imposed limitations.
The days are filled with classes and discussions. At the core of the program is found the teachings of the Gurus and the sacred science of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan, highlighted by the experienced teachers who present the classes. Much of the focus is on the integration of the spiritual and temporal in daily life, discussions about the challenges of living as a saint-soldier and following the teachings of the Guru’s while living, studying, and working in the world around us. There are powerful Kundalini Yoga classes with deep meditations, classes about Sikh history with discussions about their relevance for us living in today’s world. There are group sessions as well as separate sessions for males and females.
The real impact of Camp Miri Piri is the experience of it; the processes that occur during the camp, which continue on for sometime after. It is in the experiences going through the sequence of the Camp that personal transformation can and does occur. One of the beautiful things about Camp Miri Piri is the broad spectrum of ages and the diversity of experience that is found, which enriches the experience of the Camp and leads to strong bonds between the participants.
This is only the second time that Camp Miri Piri has been held outside of Asia. And what better place to have it than under the blue skies of New Mexico at Hacienda de Guru Ram Das! It was here that Siri Singh Sahib Yogi Bhajan taught and lived and we will have the opportunity to meditate in that atmosphere. One of the most beautiful gurdwaras in North America is also there. Camp Miri Piri is about Miri and Piri and the balance between them. To be successful, to be happy, and to live without fear it is essential so that we can wield the two with equal authority. Miri is the temporal or worldly authority and Piri is the spiritual or the authority of consciousness. Camp Miri Piri is about how to master the two in your own life so that your life is balanced, fearless, and fulfilled.
The teachers this year have all taught at previous camps in Singapore and Malaysia and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program. Each of the teachers is well versed in the teachings of the Gurus, the teachings of Siri Singh Sahib and the science and art of Kundalini Yoga. Those respected teachers include, Shanti Kaur, GuruJodha Singh, Cherdi Kala Jetha, Rajveer Singh, and Gurutej Singh. In addition we will be blessed to have Bhai Sahiba Bibi Inderjit Kaur, the wife of Siri Singh Sahib. Bibiji will share her extensive understanding of Guru’s word and will delight us with stories about her life with Siri Singh Sahib.
If you believe in yourself as a spiritual warrior, as a person of grace and consciousness, as one who walks with calm fearless balance through the Maya, as one who delights in the challenges that each day brings, or if you wish to develop those qualities in yourself, then pack your bags and head for the mountains of New Mexico. We will be there to celebrate our unity and to wield our Miri and Piri!
This year Camp Miri Piri will be held 10th - 13th July in Espanola.
Registration is $250 before June 1st.
