Akal Takhat Smacks Rochester Gurdwara Trustees on Kirpan Ban
The Akal Takhat, in a letter released this month, severely reprimanded the Gurdwara of Rochester, New York, trustees for initiating a lawsuit to restrict Kirpan use in the gurdwara. In the March 9 letter written by Jaswinder Pal Singh, assistant to Jathedar Gurbachan Singh, the Akal Takhat said the trustees had “mocked the holy Sikh Kakars with the selfish motive of winning your lawsuit.” The Akal Takhat particularly chided Santokh Badesha, one of the founders, for stating to the court that he is a Baptized Sikh, even though he cuts his Kesh and does not wear a Kirpan.
