The Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds will host more than 10, 000 people Sunday, May 30th, during the 16th Annual International Punjabi American Festival. Sponsored by the Punjabi American Heritage Society of Yuba City, the festival is a way for those with Punjabi roots to celebrate and share their culture with fellow Americans.

Date: Sunday, May 30th, 2010
Time: 11:00 am to Sunset
Location: Yuba-Sutter Fairgrounds, Yuba City

The Punjabi American Heritage Society was founded in 1993 with the purpose of creating a better understanding amongst different people living in this area and to educate children about their ancestral roots. In the past sixteen years, many events have been organized to improve awareness and to educate fellow Americans.

This weekend hundreds of local performing artists, including students from California schools, colleges and universities, will perform traditional Punjabi dances such as Bhangra, Giddha, Jhumar, Malwai Giddha and other ethnic dances. In addition, vendors will be on hand providing many Punjabi and South Asian delicacies. There are going to be 55 plus booths selling Punjabi artifacts, books and items.

This year’s festival will highlight performances by internationally acclaimed artists such Sarbjit Cheema from Canada and Manak-E from UK and the Festival will also feature award wining documentary: A Dream in Doubt

As the organization hosts the 16th Annual Punjabi-American Festival this Memorial Day weekend, it's an opportunity to reflect upon the freedoms that our families sought here in America-and those that the men and women earned in our armed forces who continue to fight and protect.

We hope you will join us at the festival, where we'll highlight the beautiful heritage of the Punjabis through music, dance and food. Come and experience our colorful clothing, learn about our history through our historical displays, taste our exotic cuisine and enjoy some of our most popular Punjabi recording artists on stage.

We're pleased to feature more than 300 Punjabi-American students from schools throughout California who will wow you with their performances of traditional Punjabi songs and folk dances and performances of the energizing sounds of the Dhol.

Since the beginning of this annual event, PAHS members, festival volunteers, performers and event vendors have worked hard each year to create this extraordinary celebration of the Punjabi culture. We hope that you will attend and enjoy!

We are especially grateful to all of the sponsors for supporting this festival. It's the support of our vendors and sponsors that allow us to share the Punjhabi culture with everyone in the Yuba-Sutter community and beyond. We invite you to learn more about the Punjabi culture and we hope to see you all at the festival.

Amrik Singh Dhugga PAHS President 2010
