To honor the 300th Anniversary of Guru Gaddee, Sikh Dharma International has released a video lecture series by the late Yogi Bhajan (also known as Siri Singh Sahib Bhai Sahib Harbhajan Singh Khalsa Yogiji) titled, “Light of the Shabad Guru.”

This 2-DVD video lecture series features rare footage of Yogi Bhajan speaking in Sikh Gurdwaras about the Sikh concept of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib as a Living Guide and Guru. The lectures were recorded in the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Over 20 of these video lectures were developed in 2007 and 2008 to honor the 300th Anniversary of Guru Gaddee. These programs are currently airing on JusPunjabi TV – a United States-based Punjabi cable station. The 2-DVD set released in June of 2008 features 6 of these video lectures. The remaining video lectures will also be released on DVD in 2008 and 2009. Many of these video lectures are also free to view on-line.

October 2008 marks the 300th Anniversary of Guru Gaddee- of the the Guruship – or Primary Spiritual Authority – for the Sikhs being bestowed upon the Siri Guru Granth Sahib. The Siri Guru Granth Sahib is a compilation of 1430 pages of sacred teaching songs written by the Sikh masters, and also by spiritually awakened people from other faiths. In 1708, the 10th living Master of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, stated that there would no longer be any living Gurus in the Sikh line. And that the future generations of Sikhs should look to the hymns of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib for their guidance and awakening.

Over the years, the issue of how a collection of songs can be a Living Guru has inspired a lot of debate. The late Yogi Bhajan was both a master of Kundalini Yoga and a devout Sikh. He came to the West in the 1960s and began teaching these two traditions of Kundalini Yoga and Sikh Dharma. His perspective on the power and spiritual technology of the Siri Guru Granth Sahib inspired a generation of people around the world to adopt the Sikh way of life. In these video lectures, Yogi Bhajan explains how the Siri Guru Granth Sahib is a Living Guru and share the Sikh perspective on how sound and language impacts consciousness. To honor his mission in sharing the Sikh teachings with people from around the world, Yogi Bhajan was given the title Siri Singh Sahib in the 1970s.
