What makes a scholar? And what goes into the making of a Sikh scholar?

It was like switching a machine on an off: militancy on, militancy off. And this gave me a chilling realization that the internal chaos of the Sikhs, just like the external chaos of Punjab, had been, and continued to be, cynically exploited by powers much greater than them.

The greatest lesson was observing how the Sikh and other minority communities could be so easily manipulated and yet remain utterly oblivious of it.

In regard to Sikhi, lots of things grab me but I think that’s a conversation for another time. But if I had to pin-point one or two, what really motivates me is a desire to see the educational level of the community elevated by a significant degree.

Mehboob was considered among one of the most learned contemporary writers in Punjab. He was suffering from bone cancer that was detected some time last year and had been undergoing his treatment at Jalandhar. He died on February 15.
