The Miri Piri Academy students performed Gatka and enthralled the spectators at the Houston MLK Day parade. A swelling crowd of 300,000 spectators hailed the Sikh group with loud clapping and approving ‘yes’ sound as the group passed through the parade.
While the Unity 5K began as a remembrance of those lost at the Sikh Temple shootings in Oak Creek Wisconsin in 2012, this year the groups remembered those lost in the recent shootings in Charleston, SC and Chattanooga, TN.
