Guru Nanak traveled all over India to spread the word of God, and he walked everywhere on foot. His companions Bala and Mardana always traveled with him. Once they were in a remote part of India called Kamrup where the people were famous for their devotion to black magic. When Guru Nanak reached the outskirts of the city he sat down under a tree and began meditating. While Bala stayed with him Mardana went ahead into the city to find food and drink.
Movement on women’s rights has been slow even in progressive societies. In the United States women got the right to vote only in 1920, a good 150 years after the birth of this nation.
Whenever I used to see an article on breast cancer, I would flip the page thinking, "Oh, it will never happen to me!" not giving it much attention. But it can happen to anyone.

Personally, I am humbled and amazed by the time and talent that went into creating the films this year. The theme “onKaur” spoke to a lot of young people. They have given us, in return, a treasure trove of images and stories that celebrate the strength and power of the Sikh and Khalsa women.
Punjab’s women have always been considered among the most beautiful in the land.
Sitting in Guruka Singh's house last week, watching video after video, all of us felt deeply moved and also quite stunned. Stunned at the number of entries. Stunned at the quality of the work. Stunned at how much time, care, effort, thought and energy it took to make each one of these films.
