August 8th, 2009 by Manvir Singh Khalsa Source: manvirsingh.blogspot.com
Last Wednesday there was a "Sikh Awareness Day" held at Long Eaton School near Nottingham. Bhaji Pardip Singh had been working at the school and before he left the staff requested for a Sikh Awareness Day to be arranged so that the school could be educated on who Sikhs are and what they believe as there no Sikhs living around that area. Bhenji Gurpreet Kaur, Bhenji Kirat Kaur and Daas helped Bhaji Pardip Singh with the Sikh Awareness Day.

Live sessions were held throughout the day. For each session the students were given handouts with questions which they had to fill in during the session. The presentation started off with some basic questions about Sikhs followed by where Sikhs come from and some photographs of Panjab. Afterwards Sikh beliefs, Sikh uniform & appearance, Sri Guru Granth Sahib jee, Sikhs in World Wars, and Sikhs in Britain was covered. During the session selected students were given the opportunity to tie Dastaars on one another and then afterwards one of us re-tied the Dastaars on them. The whole day was very successful. All the children were well-behaved and showed interest in what was being said. May Guru Jee do kirpaa that these type of awareness days or sessions are held at all schools!

Our Children Needs to Be Educated, They are future Torch Bearers

Our Children Must Know Some of the Basic Philosophy of Sikhism #1 Sikhism is a MONOTHEISTIC religion(To surrender and serve the One Supreme Lord) #2 Sikh scriptures were compiled in a spiritual language "Gurmukhi" #3 Sikih scriptures DO NOT deny the personality of God, they worship his formless aspect which is in the heart as Paramatma.and the individual soul as Atma (The Bride and the Groom) #4 Sikhs believe in Karma and Reincarnation #5 Sikhism see this material world as a place of suffering , true happiness is only in the Spiritual world "Sachkand" #6 Sikhism sees the soul as eternal. #7 Devotion to God -Bhakti is of utmost importance #8 Sikhs have a concept of sin #9 Sikhs Gurus reject the Hindu Monist Philosophy of Shankararchary that "I am God "and you are God #10 Sikhs reject The Voidist philosophy as taught by Buddha that the soul dies with the body. #11 Sikhs respect the 33 million demigods but they do NOT worship them for Material gains, because it binds the soul to the material world and results in repeated birth and death for the material body. #12 No Sikh Guru ever ate meat, #13 There are 10 Gurus , expansions from the One. In reality there is Only ONE the rest are expansions with the same potency. #14 Some Sikhs see Guru Nanak Dev Ji as God, who came in this Age Kali Yug, following Ram ,and Krishna. #15 Sikhs are Not Hindus although they share some of their believes.
