Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) has been entrusted with the work of solarising important structures including the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and the Sri Harmandir Sahib.

All the gadgets of these buildings would be run through solar energy under the project and work on the first phase would be started in the coming four months.

This was revealed by PEDA chairman, Manjit Singh, at a press conference here today.

The chairman said the PEDA has got the project from the Centre because of the efficiency of the Agency in utilising the non-conventional and renewable energy sources.

It may be noted that PEDA also received the best Performance Award in the country.

In the second phase, all religious places in New Delhi will be equipped with solar energy equipment, he added.

Talking about the projects to be undertaken in Punjab, he said, PEDA would start solarisation of Sri Harimandir Sahib, Durgiana Mandir, Jallianwala Bagh, Attari check post, Anandpur Sahib and Talwandi Sabo. Work on Sri Harimandir Sahib would start from June 1. He said by using non-conventional energy they are already in the process of making Punjab a power surplus in the coming years.

“PEDA would start producing power from next year and contribute by generating 350 MW energy,” the chairman said.

He said in coordination with the PSEB, the agency has chosen 13 circles in Punjab where CFLs would be provided at cheaper rates.

Manjit Singh said 30,000 bio-gas plants are already working in Punjab which can be of great help when it comes to saving the environment from pollution.
