PATHARSAHIB (72K)Gurudwara Pathar Sahib restored to old glory

Leh, August 15, 2010: A week after it was buried in sludge following a cloudburst, the centuries-old Gurudwara Pathar Sahib here was on Sunday flocked by devotees praying for those who lost their lives in the calamity and for return of prosperity to the region. A major tourist destination, the Gurudwara, which is about 25 kms from Leh, has been cleaned of about four feet of sludge that flowed down the hills following the cloudburst on the intervening night of August 5 and 6.

A group of Army personnel along with stranded Sikh truck drivers and labourers while maintaining the "maryada" had worked for hours to clean up the Gurudwara. They ensured that the holy Guru Granth Sahib is taken out to safety with due respect.

Rahul Gandhi, Pallam Raju visit flood-affected Leh

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Minister of State for Defence M Pallam Raju visited various areas in Leh on Monday, over a week after flashfloods had left the town devastated.

They visited the Military Hospital in Leh, and interacted with patients, both civilian and army, who had sustained injuries in the calamity.

rahulgandhileh (17K)Gandhi also visited the Choglamsar relief camp and interacted with locals of the village who had lost their homes in the floods. He assured the people that all possible assistance would be given to them for their rehabilitation.

The Army and the Air Force in Ladakh region are supervising relief and rescue operations.

Lieutenant General S. K. Singh, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army's 14 Corps, briefed both Gandhi and Raju on the situation in Ladakh.

He also briefed them about the restoration of region's connectivity with the rest of the country, and their ongoing rescue operations to locate missing Army personnel at Tyakshi. [By Jigmet Angchuk (ANI)]
