KIDS TUTORING FREE—AN INITIATIVE OF A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

After his grandmother passed away in the summer of 2015, Ameek Singh, a 17 year old from Fremont and a senior at The Harker School, decided to carry her legacy forward by creating a tutoring network, Kids Tutoring Free. His system is a powerful recurring scheme that multiplies the effect of charity dollars. In this scheme, underprivileged and meritorious juniors were selected and given scholarships or stipends to tutor up to four underclassmen each.  These underclassmen agreed to teach another four kids once they become upper classmen.

During this past summer, Ameek traveled to Delhi for three weeks, where he started his pilot project at the DAV high school and MCD elementary school.  Sahaita, one of Bay Area’s most reputed NGOs, agreed to fund Kids Tutoring Free. Before this Ameek has worked with other young kids as well as the Homework express program at the Newark library.

Ameek has achieved success by creating personal relationships with every scholar in his program. He believes that education is the most powerful tool necessary to achieve success and hence has also created Stockonomics to teach students finance and economics. Ameek was placed second at Harvard’s Precollegiate Economics Challenge and tenth at DECA’s International Career Development Conference. He has also cofounded a company, GHK Technologies Inc.  In the future, Ameek hopes to be an impactful leader by giving back to the community that has made him who he is today. If you would like to participate in this community program, you can email at [email protected].
