Bollywood actress Rani Mukherji, who essays a sport-loving Sikh character in her upcoming release 'Dil Bole Hadippa' says she feels challenged when critics write her off.

"I feel challenged when detractors push me to an edge. When critics crush me, I bounce back," Rani, who has undergone a complete makeover for the film said.

'Dil Bole Hadippa' is not a 'make or break' film of my career. Success and failure is not in my hands. I just want to enjoy my work as an actor," Rani who is paired opposite Shahid Kapur for the first time in the movie, said.

Rani said she started work for 'Hadippa' immediately after her last release 'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic' last year.

The actress said that since she was playing the role of an athlete, she decided to be completely fit.

"It was a demanding film because I was playing a boy as well as a cricketer. I underwent six months of training right from learning how to hold a bat. I have given my heart and soul to the film," Rani, who plays Veera as well as Veer, a Sikh boy, said.

"I trained in Yoga, cardio, weight training which helped my skin to glow and my diet included oats, brown rice and jowar roti. I have lost 7 kg and am feeling good and physically fit. Now, I can pull off an action film," she said.

Speaking about the movie, she said, "Its a vibrant and happy film. I have ensured that my Sikh character is not a caricature."

"Veer is an very interesting role and close to my heart," Rani said adding it was a strange moment for her to look at herself as a man.

She said there was no similarility between Veera and Babli from her earlier movie 'Bunty aur Babli' except that they both hail from small town.

Expressing anguish at continuous rumours about her marriage and working only for Yash Raj banner, Rani said, "I respect my privacy. This does not mean that my detractors continue to run me down and make me a person which I am not."

She said her family has been her support system. "My neice gives me great positive energy. It's wonderful to see her grow up," she said.

The actress said she wanted to work with filmmakers like Vishal Bharadwaj and other prominent directors.

"I am waiting for good scripts and roles. But, unfortunately the roles which have come to me so far have not excited me enough," she said.

"The films I have rejected may have become superhits, but they would not have helped me as an actor. The filmmakers would have surely benefited by having me," she said.

When asked about she being paired opposite younger hero like Shahid Kapur, Rani said, "He is a very focused actor and I like such artistes.

New style of mocking Sikhs....

What so special about this film, that again Sardar look being telecast. Old wine new bottle. Same concept Punjabi touch, joking Sikhs in new style, selling Punjabi music, making business and film hit.

interesting

Khalsa ji, I am glad to know that it is the most read story on Sikhnet today. I hope that more people read it and become aware of what is going on and how we are being depicted.

Interesting...

This is by far and away the most read news story on the SikhNet news today. So it appears that our readers are quite interested in it. ......G

offensive

First and foremost, I dont understand why this article is worthy of being posted on Sikhnet. Perhaps it is to make Sikh aware of the fact that a major motion picture is coming out that makes Sikh look like idiots, but the tone of this article has nothing to do with conveying that message. I know very little about the hindi movie industry simply because I refuse to watch movies produced by an industry that only cares about my religion as a profitable gimmick. Living in America it would be an outrage for a white man to paint his face dark and play a "stereotypical" black character, or for someone to tape thier eyes to look like an exaggerated asian man, simply because there are so many qualified people within the nation that could do a role of thier own ethnicity in a more tasteful manner without offending anyone. Is ther a shortage of Sikh men and women that want to portray themselves in healthy roles? What is the fitting reply to this insult? Are we supposed to resort back to taking physical action, because then we are called terrorists. Are we supposed to turn to courts to ask for injunctions? I dont see that as an option since in the past 25 years that has yeilded few results. I think the answer is that Sikh actors need to step it up and boycott the industry that insults thier faith. I think people need to follow the example of Jimmy Shergill. Regardless of whether or not you like his movies (I happen to think theyre good) he has stepped away from Hindi film and started to make meaningful punjabi films that show Sikh in a tasteful manner. Sikh are a "niara panth" and we dont need thier movies or to be their pop icons to showcase our splendor. Let us boycott movies such as these and the industry that creates them for now. Maybe in the future additional steps may become neccessary.

Shivitee Gurus are destroying Sikhs by engaging them in MAYA

This picture represents "MAYA" it makes some sikhs who are into Maya feel proud to see a Sikh in the movies, it gives them status, and a sense of false pride and hope, but this is simply spiritual suicide or poison for our younger generation , the intent of these lusty film directors and producers is simply to make money, they are looking for a Sikh market, and for this reason they are using Sikhs, and in the process pollute the minds of our younger generation Sikhs, as they have done to the entire Vaishnava community in Punjab , they are destroying the spiritual life in our younger generation . As a result of the bollywood film industry Vaishnavism has become the most polluted teachings in the nation of India , Vaishnavas are dying slowly, because of bogus pundits and gurus . , divorce, illecit sex, wife beatings, rapes, killing of babies in the womb, homosexuality, lesbians, corruption, simply because they fail to surrender and serve God, Shiviteeism have destroyed them all. Just over 1100-1200 bollywood moves enters into the homes of Indians every year increasing their sex power, compared to 300-400 movies in China. The Chinese will never allow any movie with some actress shaking her waist and exposing her breast, or the equivalent of an individual in a compromising position, such movies are considered pornography in the eyes of the average Chinese, the chinese have blocked all pornography sites on the chinese internet, so that the younger generation are not influenced by pornography , India should try to adopt some culture from their next door neighbor. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu a Vaishnava saint said " Any one who follows the teachings of the Maya-vade philosophers referring to the impersonalist philosophy of Shankararcharya will never go back to God, and will be doomed, he also said " those who promote the teachings of the Maya-vadis (Shivitees) philosophy needs to be punishment, this is stated in the Chaitanya Charitimrita. Chaitanya was considered an incarnation of God by the Vaishnava saints and condemned the teachings of Shankararcharya, thats why Shivitees despise bonafide Vaishnava teachings, Guru Nanak Dev Ji was tough on Brahmins but Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who was a high cast Vaishnava Brahman by birth condemned the teachings of Shankara in the worst manner. Thats why Shivitees hates Him. Yet he came to spread pure love of God. He also taught that one should be so humble as to be kicked as a straw on the ground. Be careful of Shivitees they claim to be God. But they are nothing more than DEMONS, dressed in the garb of a holy person. They mislead people and tell people that Guru Nanak Dev Ji was cremeated, just to destroy Him as being an incarnation of God.

Aiwen Cartoon jehi

Aiwen Cartoon jehi lag'gan dahi aa Rani Mukherji..... Bollywood waale baaj nahin aunde apniyaa'n harkataa'n to'n !!

What else do you expect a

What else do you expect a female to look like when she makes over to look like a male ? They are not preachers of religions but actors and it is their dharma & karma.

Well Written Randeep Singh Ji.......!

I also believe that like any other thing, movies have there ups and downs as well. Remember when Akshay Kumar's movie Singh is Kinng came out, according to the media, people were actually inspired to keep their turbans but that too with a perfectly intact beard (good and 'bad' all in one). Then again, that came from the Indian media so you never know for sure. In the end I would like to say that we always want what we don't have. Ex: a couple of decades or maybe even a matter of years, ago, sikhs didn't appear to be in any hindi movies and we would complain about that fact. Now, directors are over the girl and boy fall in love, family doesn't like it but they end up getting married idea. They are adding a twist in to their movies by bringing us in. Afterall it is businss, we are different and that makes the movie different even if the plot is the same. They are practically using us but anything for business right? ~~ Simran Kaur~~
