Sikhs are already recognized as one of the most successful peoples wherever they go. The Sikh community knows it and those who know of Sikhs know that they are most enterprising and hard working. There is nothing to establish there. Most politicians, when discussing the Sikhs in foreign lands, comment almost exclusively on the Sikhs' civil contributions to their respective nations and how they have enriched civilian life, because there is where the majority of the Sikh Disapora is earning their daily living.
The issue at hand is that the Sikhs are denied entry into the U.S. Army in VIOLATION of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the freedom to practice religion. It is what every Sikh keeps in mind when swearing on the U.S. Constitution as a U.S. Citizen or is given at birth as a U.S. Citizen. This is not a Sikh problem, this is the U.S. government's problem, because they themselves are in violation of the very basic ideals that form the structure of this nation. It would not be unwise to highlight the very decorated history of Sikhs in various armies, their long martial tradition and their service record in this campaign.
It has come time that the Sikh Diaspora look towards jobs out of the "white collar" society into all other aspects of their host countries. The Sikh nation needs more scholars, academics and preachers that are in tune with the realities of the western world (while never compromising Sikh values - a problem fast becoming apparent in a lot of our "reformist modern" preachers) to inspire, serve and lead this great faith into the future. We already have earned the respect of the entire world due to hard work and success...it is time to earn Guru Sahib's respect and stand up, become who Guru Sahib told us to become and let the world know of the greatness of Sikhism as a great religion of this and the coming ages.
i have never understood why is that SIKH's are only projected in Military Uniform as soldiers and not as ENTERPRINORS, SCHOLORS, IT PROFESSIONALS, DEPLOMATES, DOCTORS, SCIENTIES, ENGINEERS or high grade white colour jobs professionals.
I think it’s high time to visualize or portray Sikhs only in soldier uniform.
If we ourselves don’t change the way we see our people. Our coming generation would never be able to inline with changing world.
The era of War and Swords is gone…. Its time to that we educate and train our Sikh youths towards being a part of main-stream world. And upgrade ourselves to earn respect and glory with being highly skilled and educated youths then just soldiers who are standing with a gun in their hand. Waiting to get orders to fight without actually knowing what are they fighting for !!~
Lets change the way we see ourselves, If we wish the world to change image about us in their minds !!...
