My name is Pavandeep Kaur. I work as a mental health professional and an advocate for human trafficking victims. I am also a survivor of sex trafficking. I was trafficked in the United States, in Orlando, FL, from ages 13-15, by a member of my family of origin and family “friends,” one of whom was involved in law enforcement.
The Sikh Awareness Society (SAS), a charity which focuses on family welfare, claims it has investigated more than 200 reports of child sexual grooming in the UK over the past five years.
It happens every year, Valentine’s Day, another day corporations have learned how to cash in on. Hundreds of thousands of dollars via the sale of roses, dinners, chocolates, cards etc. will be spent for a spectacular show of affection.
The project is aimed at providing education to girl children and it works with over 20 non-governmental organizations to support around 75,000 girls across the country. The cause is well-intended and noble. But was it really necessary to use sexual allusions to drum up support for their cause?
