Purpose
The idea of this camp is for a large part to build relationships and connections among Sikh youth (and anyone else). You can come and see what 3HO Sikhs are like and take from it what you can. We see this as building bridges between the Panjabi Sikh youth and the white/3HO Sikh youth.
The other aspects of it are educational and inspirational. You will have to be open minded to the yoga practices, mantras, and meditations we practice. We will be doing Nitnem banis as well, to cover the Sikhi aspect, and gatka. There will also be Kirtan/Simran opportunities. Please let us know if you sing Kirtan.
3HO
To understand 3HO and it roots we will be visiting with Bibi Inderjit Kaur. She is the widow of the late Harbhajan Singh Yogi Ji (Siri Singh Sahib). She will be sharing with you some of the history and perspectives of Yogi ji. We are also going to have an evening with Shanti Kaur. She was very close to Yogi ji, she's a Sikh historian, and a true inspiration as a Khalsa woman. Our focus isn't on knowledge but experience and fun. We won't have much lectures, and discussion aside from whatever springs from our own inspiration. At these2 evening programs the schedule will be flexible with the possibility of story telling, personal stories, Sikhi discussion, and Kirtan/Simran.
Aquarian Sadhna
This is the sadhana program the happens every day in Espanola (and most 3HO centers). It's starts at 3:45 AM with Japji Sahib, 4-5 kundalini yoga, 5-6 mantra meditations, 6-7 Gurdwara Divan. Not all of the mantra meditations are in Gurbani. This specific Sadhna was designated by Yogi ji for us all to practice. The yoga section won't be a yoga class, it will be someone leading a yoga set, with little explanation. Someone with no kundalini yoga experience may be a little behind, but it's definitely doable. Our plan is to complete the 5 banis after 7AM.
Picnic
New Mexico is a beautiful place with clean air and we thought it was important to do an outside activity so the sangat who mainly stays in the cities will know how refreshing it is, so that's the idea behind the hike and picnic on Saturday August 11. We also have the option to do meditations and discussions at our destination.
Yoga Class
The intention of the yoga class on Friday 2-4 is to introduce basics to people who may be beginners. This will help with the Aquarian Sadhna the following day. This will also hopefully explain the purpose of yoga, and explain why we practice it as Sikhs.
Gatka
We have several people in our sangat who know the common form of gatka from Panjab. This is not Shastar Vidiya. We do have people who may be available to teach self-defence techniques if desired.
Food
Breakfasts will be farily light - Fruit, cereal etc. Lunch on Friday will be Mexican take out, and dinner will likely be up to Bibiji (likely Panjabi food). Saturday lunch will be picnic - tofu sandwiches, chips, etc. and dinner will be provided by Shanti Kaur. Sunday lunch will be langar after Gurdwara (which can range from Chinese, Mexican, or Indian food in our Sangat).
