bilaaval kee vaar mehlaa 4
Satgur Sahib Ji Guru Ram Daas Maharaj Ji is blessing us today in the Bilaaval Kee Vaar. A Vaar is simply a collection of Pauriya and in each of the pauriya is written by that saroop of Guru Sahib which is written in the beginning. So when Satgur Sahib Ji has written Bilaaval Kee Vaar mehlaa 4, which means all of the pauriya unless indicated otherwise in the vaar are written by Sri Guru Ram Daas Ji Maharaj. And the Vaars used to be used in the sangeet of that time in the musical measures of that time to tell the stories of battles. The word Vaar itself also means the strike of the sword and in the Vaars which we find in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj Satgur Sahib Ji has illustrated the battles between the desires of the mind and the path of devotion to Waheguru Ji and the path of understanding the Guru's wisdom. So in this Vaar of Bilaaval Raag begins with the manglacharan, the introduction.

ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad.
There is one eternal Lord, God, Waheguru who is forever sat eternal and who is found through the grace of the Guru, the parsaad of the Guru.

salok mehlaa 4.
In the salok Satgur Ji blesses us.

har utam har parabh gaavi-aa kar naad bilaaval raag.
updays guroo sun mani-aa Dhur mastak pooraa bhaag

Satgur Ji is saying har utam har parabh gaavi-aa that utam the most higher of high, Hari who brings life to all, those who sing His praises; gaaviaa means to sing; kar naad in melody; naad means melody, in the melody of the musical measure of Bilaaval. The raag of Bilaaval is meant to induce the feelings of happiness and joy. And Satgur Ram Daas Ji says those who have sung Bilaaval in Bilaaval Raag the praise of the Lord, tjhose who have sung the shabad of the Guru, the word of the Guru through this Raag; updays guroo sun mani-aa Dhur mastak pooraa bhaag and those who have sun listen to the updays - the messagae of the Guru and have mani-aa and have accepted it and are expressing it through this Bilaaval Raag; Dhur mastak pooraa bhaag upon their mastak forehead they have pooraa complete blessed bhaag destiny, fortunes. Maharaj Sahib Ji is telling us, Satgur Ram Daas Ji, O people of the world if you are going to sing this Bilaaval Raag sing it in praise of the Lord. Sing the shabad, words of the Guru and you will be blessed with this perfect destiny, this perfect fortune. And the other meaning of the line is har utam har parabh gaavi-aa to sing the praises of that har utam Waheguru who is higher than all, who is the parabh Lord of all, who has sung this? The Guru has, kar naad, the melody is the Guru's message, the Guru's bani. And those who have sun mani-aa listened and understood and are practicing this naad, this melody, this message of the Guru, within them Raag meaning love. Love has welled up, and from that love comes Bilaaval, and Bilaaval means joy, endless joy. So those who have listened to the message of the Guru love has broken open for the Lord and from this love has come Bilaaval, Anand a joy which is never ending. updays guroo sun mani-aa And this joy comes from listening to the message of the Guru and mani-aa accepting it. Dhur mastak pooraa bhaag And those who have done this, those great souls, their destiny upon their forehead is pooraa perfect, fulfilled.

They have attached laag their liv consciousness to the Guru's shabad, to the Guru's words. What does that mean to sing the Guru's shabad with your tongue, to contemplate it within your mind and to love the Guru's message within your heart? That is what Guru Ji is talking about here.

sabh tan man hari-aa ho-i-aa man khirhi-aa hari-aa baag.
Allsabh of their tan physical body, man spiritual body, internally and externally, hari-aa ho-i-aa - they have blossomed forth; man khirhi-aa hari-aa baag; man means mind and also means that their mind and body is khirhi-aa flourishing, hari-aa means lush, baag means garden. Their mind and body are blossoming forth in the Guru's love.

And Guru Ram Daas Ji says with the chaanan with the light of the charaag, of the lamp, of the gi-aan, of the wisdom of the Guru. The Guru's lamp of wisdom has taken away all of this darkness.
