Soohee mehalaa 5 |
In this shabad today Sathiguru Arjan Devjee Maharaj is speaking. Sathiguru Jee says,

Dhan sohaagan jo prabhoo pashaanai |
Maharaj jee says dhan - meaning to be blessed, blessed is that sohaagan - soul bride who is connected with her Husband, with Lord God, with Waheguru. So that soul who is connected with God, Maharaj jee calls sohaagan - that sohaagan - that soul who is connected with Lord God is dhan - is blessed jo prabhoo pshaanai - who understands, who recognizes, who sees, who experiences that her True Self, her True identity is Waheguru, is Lord God, that her small light is part of that eternal light, her aatmaa is part of that param-aatmaa - that she is just a drop of that ocean. So Maharaj is talking about that soul who realizes that he/she is just a soul - just a drop from the ocean of Akaal Purakh and understands that their true self, their true mission in life is to merge back with that ocean.

Maanai hukam thajai abhimaanai |
What is the way of understanding this? Sathiguru jee Maharaj says this that maanai hukam - you have to understand and you have to accept the commands of the Guru. If you understand, accept and practice what the Guru says: thajai abhimaanai - in this way you will give up your ego. Your egotistical pride will only be overcome by, Maharaj jee says, understanding and accepting what the Guru says and practicing what the Guru says. If Guru talks about amritvela then practicing the amritvela, practicing the early hours of morning, if the Guru talks about reading bani, if the Guru talks about a daily nitnem - keeping and reading certain banis, meditating upon the moolmantar and the gurmantar - upon Waheguru and the mool mantar - that is the way of thajai abhimaanai - of giving up egotistical pride. If you want to take away that veil of pride which separates you from the Lord then Gurujee says follow the hukam of the Guru - the commands of the Guru.

Pria sio raathee raleeaa maanai |1|
Then that soul bride who has followed the hukam - who follows the commands, who follows the gurmath - the Guru's wisdom and has given up all sense of ego is raathee - is imbued in the love of their pria - of their husband Lord Waheguru and forever raleeaa maanai - forever enjoys the highest pleasures, the highest delights, the never ending pleasure of bliss - anand, of complete inner and outer peace.

Sun sakheeeae prabh milan neesaanee |
Sun sakheeeae - listen O my friend, listen O my companion prabh milan neesaanee - the neesaanee - the signs of union with prabh, with Waheguru. What are the signs of someone who has walked upon this path, of someone who has given up their ego, of someone who is walking upon the Guru's path? - Guru sahibjee tells us,

Man than arap thaj laaj lokaanee |1| rehaao |
That persons has arap - has surrendered their man - their mind, than - their body to the Guru's seva - to selfless service, to meditation and has thaj - has given up laaj lokaanee - has given up what the world is going to say. They pay no attention to the many voices in the world which stand against faith, which stand against belief, which stand against that love for Akaal Purakh, for that Waheguru - that is the way you can tell who is walking upon the Guru's path. Rehaao - Gurujee says listen to these virtues, don't just listen and leave it there. This is an internal search, we aren't meant to be looking in other, we are meant to be searching ourselves. Have we got these virtues within us? Rehaao - pause and think about this.

Sakhee sehaelee ko samajhaavai |
Maharaj jee says that sakhee - one soul bride is talking to the other, one soul, one friend, one companion is talking to the other. Gurujee is sitting us down, look how great Gurujee is that making themselves a companion of our soul, they are making us, they are helping us understand that,

Soee kamaavai jo prabh bhaavai |
This state of being soee kamaavai - doing those things which please Akaal Purakh - that which is in the command of the Guru.

Saa sohaagan ank samaavai |2|
That sohaagan - that soul bride who follows what the Guru says, ank samaavai - merges in, ank - into Akaal Purakh. On the other hand Guru Sahibjee says,

Garab gehaelee mehal n paavai |
That soul who is gehaelee - who is in the grip of, is under the influence of ego mehal n paavai - cannot find their true place of rest, their true identity, cannot understand that their soul is a drop of an ocean, of Akaal Purakh.

Fir pashuthaavai jab rain bihaavai |
Then repents, then regrets, then cries out jab rain bihaavai - when the night of death, when the dawn comes of death then that soul bride repents that why didn't I follow what the Guru said? Why didn't I meditate? Why didn't I have love in my heart for humanity?

Karameheen manamukh dhukh paavai |3|
Those who have unfortunate karam, karameheen - those who have bad fortunes, those who are without good karam, those who have not commited good actions in this world manamukh - are mind-centered and dhukh paavai - have pain in their lives, those who do not follow what the Guru says.

Bino karee jae jaanaa dhoor |
Sathiguru Sahibjee says bino karee - I would only cry out jae - if I thought that - janaa- that Waheguru was dhoor - Waheguru was far away. But Maharaj jee says,

Prabh abinaasee rehiaa bharapoor |
My prabh - my all powerful, abinaasee - my never ending, limitless Waheguru is bharapoor - is pervading through all.

Jan naanak gaavai dhaekh hadhoor |4|3|
Sathiguru Maharaj jee says that I humbly gaavai - I sing the praises of Akaal Purakh and dhaekh hadhoor - I see with my eyes, I see Him to be hadhoor - to be ever-present in all places at all times. Guru jee says that jan naanak gaavai - if you sing the praises of Waheguru as a jan - as a servant, if you humbly give up your mind and body to the Guru and humbly sing praises of Waheguru then dhaekh hadhoor - you will see that Lord God pervading through all.

Prabh abinaasee rehiaa bharapoor |
Jan naanak gaavai dhaekh hadhoor |4|3|
