Dhanaasaree mehalaa 1 |
SathGuru Sahib jee Siri Guru Nanak Dev jee Maharaj is speaking to us today in the dhanaasaree ragini. SathGuru Maharaj jee is telling us the glory of prema bhagti - of loving devotion to Akaal Purakh. Maharaj Sahib jee is explaining to us, O Sikhs of the Guru, O people of the world only those people who have welled up within them love; prema bhagti - devotional love for Akaal purakh only they have been united with the Lord. That is the path, that is the way, that is the rasta - the path of gurmath - of the Guru's wisdom. Guru Nanak Dev jee Maharaj is telling us today in this shabad and Maharaj Sahib jee begins:

Sehaj milai miliaa paravaan |
Maharaj Sahib jee says that person their miliaa - their uniting into Waheguru is paravaan - is accepted, if fulfilled, completely takes place who milai who unites with Waheguru through sehaj - sehaj here means through spiritual knowledge; aatam gyaan. Sehaj also talks about sehaj bhagti - which is the devotional worship in the house of Guru. Sehaj bhagti means meditating upon the naam. Living amongst the world but focusing the chit - the consciousness on Akaal Purakh. As Guru Gobind Singh jee Maharaj says in Jaap Sahib: chit charan naam - at all times keeping the Lotus Feet, the naam of Guru, of Waheguru in the mind and not looking to find God through religious guises, wonderings at pilgrimages or austerities - standing on one leg or any of those types of things. The Gurmat path is that of Naam simran - of abhyaas; meditation upon the naam - the name of the Lord. That meditation upon the name of the Lord is the greatest thing and that is what will unite us with Akaal Purakh. That is what Guru Nanak Dev jee Maharaj is saying to us today sehaj milai miliaa paravaan - that that person who through sehaj - who through this path of peaceful, of intuitive meditation upon the Lord, who through the aatam gyaan - the spiritual knowledge of the Guru, meditates upon the Guru again and again, meditates upon the naam will truly be united in with Akaal Purakh. Guru Sahib jee says,

Naa this maran n aavan jaan |
That Gurmukh piaaraa - that beloved being, who through this path of gurmat, who through this path of sehaj bhagti - this path of loving devotion to Waheguru through attachment to the naam, naa this maran - that person never dies, that being becomes immortal - becomes part of that immortal Akaal Purakh. N aavan jaan - doesn't have to come and go before reincarnation. Maharaj Sahib jee says in that avasthaa - in that state of being,

`Thaakur mehi dhaas dhaas mehi soe |
In thaakur - in the creator Lord Waheguru, in the Lord of this universe mehi dhaas - all of His servants abide in Him. Dhaas mehi soe - but that Waheguru lives within the dhaas - lives within the servant as well, within His devotional servant - that bhagat, that devotee of the Lord. Guru Sahib jee says in this avasthaa, in this state of being those gurmukh piaarae - those beloved beings come to realize that Waheguru jee abides within us and that we are living in Waheguru jee.

Jeh dhaekhaa theh avar n koe |1|
Where ever they look theh avvar n koe - they don't see avar - they don't see any other. Those gurmukh piaarey are at that level where all they see is Akaal purakh, where all they see is Ik Oankaar wherever they look.

Guramukh bhagath sehaj ghar paaeeai |
Maharaj Sahib jee says that through sehaj bhagti - through this meditation upon the naam we will find our true ghar - our true destination, our true abode which is in Waheguru. How are we going to do this? - By becoming gurmukh, by always keeping ourselves centered upon the Guru, by keeping the Guru as the center of our lives. That is gurmukh who keeps Guru as the epicenter of his life.

Bin gur bhaettae mar aaeeai jaaeeai |1| rehaao |
Maharaj Sahib jee says without uniting with the Guru mar aaeeai jaaeeai - there is always coming and going onto this earth. There will always be the fear of death. That can only be taken away, this cycle of reincarnation can only be taken away with the grace of the Guru. Maharaj Sahib jee says, rehaao - Pause and think about this. When we ask who is the Guru? Maharaj Sahib jee says,

So gur karo j saach dhrirraavai |
Become the disciple of that Guru j saach dhrirraavai - who implants within you, dhrirraavai means to completely embed within you saach - the knowledge of that eternal Waheguru.

Akath kathaavai sabadh milaavai |
That Guru who kathaavai - who tells you the path - tells you the way to that akath - to that Waheguru who is beyond all description sabadh milaavai - who unites you through the shabad. No other path, this is the path of the shabad. The Guru's path is the path of the shabad and that is which we are going to be united with Akaal Purakh, through the shabad.

Har kae log avar nehee kaaraa |
Those log - those beings who have devoted themselves to the Hari, to Waheguru, to the nourisher of all avar nahi kaara - they have no other mission to do. Yes they live throughout the world, yes they take part in all other things but their mission, within their heart, is to unite with Akaal Purakh. Maharaj Sahib jee says,

Saacho thaakur saach piaaraa |2|
Those gurmukh piaarey, that saacho thaakur - that eternal Lord Waheguru and His eternal name are piaaraa - are blessed, are beloved by them - by those beings who meditate upon the Lord.

Than mehi manooaa man mehi saachaa |
Within this body resides the mind, and within this mind, within a physical body there is a spiritual body, within the spiritual body resides Akaal Purakh. Maharaj Sahib jee is saying that than mehi manooaa - those gurmukh piaarey their mind doesn't wonder, their mind remains within them. They keep control of their mind, those blessed beings, than mehi manooaa - they keep it within them, they do not let it wonder. Man mehi saachaa - in this way they realize that within their spiritual body resides Waheguru. When all of the wonderings are stopped, are restrained we abide in peace and then we see that Waheguru who is the ocean of peace.

So saachaa mil saachae raachaa |
Maharaj Sahib jee says that person is eternal and is forever full of that truth mil saachae raachaa - who has united with that eternal jot, that eternal light within and become one with it.

Saevak prabh kai laagai paae |
Those people who are saevak - who are servants of Akaal purakh they attach themselves to the paae - to the feet of prabh; of Waheguru, to the Lotus Feet of the Guru, to the Lotus Feet of Waheguru jee. What are the Lotus Feet - the shabad.

Sathigur pooraa milai milaae |3|
Maharaj Sahib jee says the true Guru who is poora - who is completly perfect milai milaae - those people who have been united with God have been milaae - have been united through the grace of the true Guru Maharaj Sahib jee says.

Aap dhikhaavai aapae dhaekhai |
God Himself sits in the SathGuru, in the true Guru and dhikhaavai - shows us the way, aapae dhaekhai - Waheguru jee sits within the Sikh and finds out the path as well. Maharaj Sahib jee is telling us this wondrous game of Akaal Purakh.

Hath n patheejai naa bahu bhaekhai |
Maharaj Sahib jee here is talking about the path of ego. Maharaj Sahib jee says that within the path of gurmat this idea of hath - I will meet God whether He is willing or not is not the way. Many people at the time of Guru Sahib jee and even now have got this idea but Guru Sahib jee says hath n patheejai - that is not the way of pleasing Akaal Purakh. Naa bahu bhaekhai - neither through many religious garbs. Guru Sahib jee says in Jap jee Sahib hukam rajae chalanaa - that is the path of gurmat; walking in the command of Waheguru.

Gharr bhaaddae jin anmrith paaeiaa |
Waheguru jee has made all of the bhaaddae - all of the vessels, all of these bodies and anmrith paaeiaa - has put the naam anmrith already within the spiritual body. Another way of looking at this line: gharr bhaaddae - those gurmukh piaarey who have made the vessel within them of sarvan; listening, manan; accepting and nidhiaasan; practicing - who listen, accept and practice Guru's teachings anmrith paaea - they find the immortal nectar within.

Praem bhagath prabh man patheeaaeiaa |4|
If you want to please Waheguru jee, that prabh the only way is through prema bhagti - is through loving devotion to the naam, attaching ourselves again and again to the naam, repeating with our tongue Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru Waheguru again and again, again and again, again and again, and loving devoting yourself to the Guru's service.

Parr parr bhoolehi chottaa khaahi |
Maharaj Sahib jee says parr parr bhoolehi - simply by reading in ego again and again and studying various literature, various things, simply by studying you'll bhoolehi - if that studying isn't invested with prema bhagti, with loving devotion then you'll wonder and chottaa khaahi - you'll have to suffer punishment. Everything that we do must be colored in that prema bhagti and if it's not colored with that loving devotion then it is devoted towards ego.

Bahuth siaanap aavehi jaahi |
Maharaj Sahib jee says with many clever tricks aavehi jaahi. Even though you have many of them you will still have to come and go in reincarnation. Maharaj Sahib jee says instead of this,

Naam japai bho bhojan khaae |
Meditate upon the name of the Lord and bho bhojan khaae - for your sustenance, for your food take the bho - the cleansing fear of Lord, the loving fear of Waheguru that He is always watching, that He is always within us.

Guramukh saevak rehae samaae |5|
Those saevak - those servants of the Lord who have completely devoted themselves to Waheguru, to the Guru, who have made the Guru mukh - the epicenter of their lives rehae samaae - forever they are merged in with Akaal Purakh.

Pooj silaa theerath ban vaasaa |
Those who worship silaa - idols and theerath ban vasaa - live in forests and places of pilgrimages,

Bharamath ddolath bheae oudhaasaa |
Being entangled in bharam - what does that mean? Believing something that which it's not; looking at the rope in the middle of the night and thinking that it's a snake - that is bharam. Ddolath means to always be wavering, giving up. Through all these doubts, through all this wavering bheae oudhaasaa - they've become sad, they give up on the path. Maharaj Sahib jee says don't do this. Maharaj Sahib jee says,

Man mailai soochaa kio hoe |
If your mind is mailai - dirty then soochaa kio hoe - how can your body be pure? How can this dirty mind be purified?

Saach milai paavai path soe |6|
Maharaj Sahib jee says, that person who is united with that eternal Waheguru paavai path soe - that person receives pat - honor and that person becomes one with pati Waheguru.

Aachaaraa veechaar sareer |
Maharaj Sahib jee says with your body carry out those actions which the Guru says and in your mind think those thoughts which the Guru tells you to. Meditate upon the Guru with your mind, body and soul, with sareer - with your physical and spiritual bodies.

Aadh jugaadh sehaj man dheer |
With this tuk in your mind that Waheguru jee is aad sach, jugaad sach, hai bhee sach and Nanak hosi bhee sach - that Waheguru jee is eternally true, eternally present, in this sehaj, in this gyaan man dheer - bring support, bring stability to your mind.

Pal pankaj mehi kott oudhaarae |
That Waheguru jee, in pal pankaj - in the blinking of an eye kott oudhaarae - can liberate millions, can liberate countless. Pal pankaj - pankaj means lotus. With their lotus eyes, with their grace, with their glance of grace they can save millions. Pal pankaj - pankaj means their Lotus Feet - those who attach themselves to their Lotus Feet kott oudhaarae - millions have been saved by attaching themselves to the naam.

Kar kirapaa gur mael piaarae |7|
O Waheguru, O Guru Sahib jee, O sathGuru jee, O Guru Sahib jee bless me with Your kirpaa and mael piaarae - unite me with Akaal Purakh, my beloved Lord god.

Kis aagai prabh thudh saalaahee |
Waheguru jee is there any other who I can go in front of and thudh saalaahee - sing Your praises. Maharaj Sahib jee says,

Thudh bin dhoojaa mai ko naahee |
Without You mai ko naahee - I see no other.

Jio thudh bhaavai thio raakh rajaae |
As it pleases You thio raakh rajaae - raakh - keep me within Your rajaee - keep me accepting Your commands, Your will.

Nanak sehaj bhaae gun gaae |8|2|
Maharaj Sahib jee says in this sehaj bhagti - in this peaceful, loving, devotional way gun gaae - meditate upon the gun; meditate upon the virtues of Waheguru. Give up the path of ego and follow the path of the Guru - this what Guru Nanak Dev jee is telling us today.

Jio thudh bhaavai thio raakh rajaae |
Nanak sehaj bhaae gun gaae |8|2|

Waheguru jee Ka Khalsa, Waheguru jee Ki Fateh!
